Evgeni Nabokov has officially announced his retirement.
Nabokov began the season with the Tampa Bay Lightning with the intention of serving as their backup goaltender. However, the 39-year-old goaltender struggled in that role and Tampa Bay eventually decided to go in a different direction. With that in mind, Tampa Bay sent to San Jose for future considerations so that Nabokov would be able to retire as a member of the Sharks. San Jose drafted Nabokov in 1994 and he went on to have his best seasons as a member of that franchise. At his height in 2007-08, Nabokov had 46 wins, a 2.14 GAA, and .910 save percentage in 77 games. He finished second in Vezina voting that season. He'll retire with 338 career wins and a 2.44 GAA and .911 save percentage in 697 contests. Feb 11 - 3:36 PM

Evgeni Nabokov has been traded to San Jose in exchange for future considerations.

Nabokov will make an announcement on his future on Wednesday and speculation is that he will retire. The trade allows him to hang up his skates as a member of the Sharks, where he played most of his NHL career.
Feb 9 - 1:14 PM

Evgeni Nabokov isn't listed on Tampa Bay's active roster.

There was no official announcement, but the Lightning apparently reassigned him to the minors. Nabokov cleared waivers on Monday and he's reportedly considering retirement.

Evgeni Nabokov has cleared waivers.

The 39-year-old goaltender hasn't announced whether he intends to retire or if he plans to play somewhere else yet. The Lightning called up Andrei Vasilevskiy on Sunday to take Nabokov's spot on the roster.
Feb 2 - 2:54 PM

The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed Evgeni Nabokov on waivers.

Nabokov has had an incredible career for a guy picked ninth round of the 1994 draft, but his numbers this season are just awful. The 39-year-old has a 3-6-2 record with a 3.14 goals-against-average and a .882 save percentage. It's unlikely that a team will put in a claim for the veteran goaltender.
Feb 1 - 12:17 PM

Lightning coach Jon Cooper offered a lukewarm show of support for backup goaltender Evgeni Nabokov.

Nabokov has a 3.15 GAA and .882 save percentage in 11 games this season. On Monday he allowed four goals on 13 shots before being pulled from the contest. "He has given us some quality starts and he's given some that I think he would like to have back," Cooper said. "He's played in some tough situations in the back-to-backs that have been difficult for him, but he's also played some games where we expected better. It's been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for him. But he's never been in this situation before, and there's been some situations where we expected better and so did he. But it's not like he’s not trying." Nabokov has no fantasy value at this point. Even if Ben Bishop gets hurt, we would expect Tampa Bay to lean on AHL goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy over Nabokov.
Jan 13 - 4:23 PM

Evgeni Nabokov was pulled in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Flyers.

The Lightning gave Nabokov the hook after he allowed four goals on 13 shots. The 39-year-old isn't even close to being the player he once was in San Jose. Nabokov has just one win in his last seven starts (1-4-2). His overall record falls to 3-6-2. The bigger story in this game is that Tampa Bay lost both Victor Hedman and Tyler Johnson to injury.
Jan 12 - 9:47 PM

Evgeni Nabokov is projected to start for Tampa Bay on Monday.

Nabokov was the first goaltender off the ice after the morning skate, which is usually a good indicator of who the starter will be. He has a 2.82 GAA and .892 save percentage in 10 contests in 2014-15.
Jan 12 - 12:06 PM

Evgeni Nabokov will probably start on Monday or Tuesday.

Lightning associate coach Rick Bowness said that Nabokov and Ben Bishop would probably split the team's back-to-back situation. Tampa visits Philadelphia on Monday and plays at Boston on Tuesday.
Jan 12 - 10:39 AM

Tampa Bay backup Evgeni Nabokov stopped 16-of-18 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss on Friday night.

The Lightning scored two goals or fewer for the seventh time in his eight starts this season but he hasn't been that great overall either. The veteran back-up has not been a source of strong play backing up Ben Bishop so far this season with a 3-4-2 record. He carries a an unimpressive 2.84 goals against average and .893 save percentage into his next relief appearance.

Evgeni Nabokov will get his eighth start of the season when the Lightning take on the Devils Friday night.

It's been an ugly season for the veteran netminder who has surrendered 21 goals on 196 shots through eight games this season. That's a 2.99 GAA and .893% save percentage. However he's fared well against the Devils since 2013, in 10 starts, nine with the Islanders, he's recorded six starts with two goals allowed or fewer.

Evgeni Nabokov made 29 stops on 30 shots to guide Tampa Bay to a 2-1 win over Carolina on Thursday night.

After an uneven start to the season, Nabokov has been great in his past two starts, allowing one goal in each of them while facing 52 shots combined. His record improves to 3-3-1 with an .897 save percentage and 2.81 goals against average.

Evgeni Nabokov is Tampa Bay's probable starter for Thursday night against Carolina.

He was the first goaltender off the ice at the team's morning skate. Nabokov's last start came on Dec. 2 in a 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo. The veteran netminder has had some trouble adjusting to the backup role so far, while posting a 2-3-1 record along with an .883 save percentage and a 3.15 GAA.

Evgeni Nabokov is still adjusting to being a backup goalie this year.

"You've got a guy, especially he's played 15 years, and he's used to playing 60-plus games a year," coach Jon Cooper said. "And now he's getting in six maybe every two months. I'm sure it's tough on him. Guys like Nabby, they bring so much more than just what they're doing on the ice, what he's doing in the room, how he's helping Bish. He's been unreal in that aspect. I can't say enough about him." He made his first start in two weeks on Tuesday in a 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo. He also hasn't faced very favorable situations with six of his starts coming in back-to-back situations and five of them taking place in the second match of those sets.
