The Lightning scored two goals or fewer for the seventh time in his eight starts this season but he hasn't been that great overall either. The veteran back-up has not been a source of strong play backing up Ben Bishop so far this season with a 3-4-2 record. He carries a an unimpressive 2.84 goals against average and .893 save percentage into his next relief appearance. Dec 19 - 11:57 PM

Evgeni Nabokov will get his eighth start of the season when the Lightning take on the Devils Friday night.

It's been an ugly season for the veteran netminder who has surrendered 21 goals on 196 shots through eight games this season. That's a 2.99 GAA and .893% save percentage. However he's fared well against the Devils since 2013, in 10 starts, nine with the Islanders, he's recorded six starts with two goals allowed or fewer.

Dec 19 - 5:26 PM

Goalie Evgeni Nabokov made 18 saves as he and the Tampa Bay Lightning were doubled up 4-2 by the Penguins in Pittsburgh Monday night.

Nabokov fell to 3-4-1 on the season. His goals-against average is 2.99 and his save percentage is .893. Nabokov came in at the start of the second period after starting Lightning goalie Ben Bishop was injured. Bishop suffered a lower-body injury.Nabokov wasn't all that dependable in this one and fantasy team owners who were taking chances with him may wish to reconsider.
Dec 15 - 10:03 PM

Evgeni Nabokov made 29 stops on 30 shots to guide Tampa Bay to a 2-1 win over Carolina on Thursday night.

After an uneven start to the season, Nabokov has been great in his past two starts, allowing one goal in each of them while facing 52 shots combined. His record improves to 3-3-1 with an .897 save percentage and 2.81 goals against average.
Dec 11 - 11:49 PM

Evgeni Nabokov is Tampa Bay's probable starter for Thursday night against Carolina.

He was the first goaltender off the ice at the team's morning skate. Nabokov's last start came on Dec. 2 in a 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo. The veteran netminder has had some trouble adjusting to the backup role so far, while posting a 2-3-1 record along with an .883 save percentage and a 3.15 GAA.
Dec 11 - 11:28 AM

Evgeni Nabokov is still adjusting to being a backup goalie this year.

"You've got a guy, especially he's played 15 years, and he's used to playing 60-plus games a year," coach Jon Cooper said. "And now he's getting in six maybe every two months. I'm sure it's tough on him. Guys like Nabby, they bring so much more than just what they're doing on the ice, what he's doing in the room, how he's helping Bish. He's been unreal in that aspect. I can't say enough about him." He made his first start in two weeks on Tuesday in a 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo. He also hasn't faced very favorable situations with six of his starts coming in back-to-back situations and five of them taking place in the second match of those sets.
Dec 3 - 8:46 AM

Evgeni Nabokov stopped 21 of 22 shots in Tuesday's game against the Sabres, but ended up being saddled with a loss in a 2-1 decision.

Nabokov had made only five starts entering the night and the loss drops his record to 2-4-0. He has struggled in limited action and is nothing more than a handcuff to starting keeper Ben Bishop. Nabokov's GAA is 3.15 while his save percentage is an ugly .883.
Dec 2 - 11:52 PM

Evgeni Nabokov will get his sixth game of the season Tuesday night in Buffalo.

Nobokov is having a miserable season as Ben Bishop's backup but there may be reason to believe he can have a good start in Buffalo as his save percentage is .923 with a 2.20 GAA in 13 starts.

Dec 2 - 7:23 PM

Evgeni Nabokov struggled mightily against his former Islanders teammates Tuesday and ended up on the wrong end of a 5-2 decision.

Given a rare opportunity to start in place of Ben Bishop, Nabokov was beaten for five goals on 36 shots in the loss. He has given very little incentive to the Lightning coaches to assign him more playing time given that his 2-3-0 record is accompanied by a 3.71 GAA and an .870 save percentage.
Nov 18 - 10:14 PM

Just to confirm, Evgeni Nabokov will start on Tuesday.

Nabokov will get a chance to play against his old team, the New York Islanders. He has a 3.32 GAA and .874 save percentage in four games in 2014-15.
Nov 18 - 12:20 PM

Evgeni Nabokov is expected to start on Tuesday against the New York Islanders.

Ben Bishop will play against the Rangers on Monday. Nabokov spent three seasons with the Islanders before he signed with Tampa Bay to serve as Bishop's understudy.
Nov 17 - 4:53 PM

Although he won't get the chance to start against his former team, the Islanders, Saturday night, Evgeni Nabokov is hoping to get the call Tuesday in Long Island.

The teams play each other twice this week and Nabokov is lobbying for a start against the Isles in Long Island. Jon Cooper is a "players" coach so it is very possible Nabby will get his wish.
Nov 15 - 11:28 AM

Evgeni Nabokov made 28 saves in the Lightning’s 7-4 win over the Blue Jackets on Saturday night.

Nabokov did his best to let Columbus back in the game, as he gave two goals early in the third period to halve the four-goal advantage. The Lightning are off to an excellent start this season, but it’s likely that they could be in the market for a better backup later in the season if Nabokov doesn’t get his act together. The veteran has a 3.32 goals-against average and .874 save percentage this season.
Nov 8 - 9:57 PM

Updating an earlier item, it will Evgeni Nabokov in net for the Lightning against Columbus and not Ben Bishop.

Adjust your goaltending rotation accordingly.
Nov 8 - 12:12 PM

Evgeni Nabokov will probably start on Saturday or Sunday.

Ben Bishop will make his fourth straight start Thursday night versus Calgary. The Lightning play in Columbus on Saturday and visit Detroit on Sunday. If Nabokov is going to play then Saturday's game makes the most sense because the Red Wings are a divisional rival.
