Mike Fisher and the Nashville Predators continue to make progress on a new contract, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

There's been plenty of interest on both sides to get a deal done, so it appears to be unlikely that Fisher will become an unrestricted free agent. We will of course let you know if that changes.

Mike Fisher's agent says that there's been a healthy dialogue between his client and the Predators.

"We’ve talked, and we talked as recently as Monday of this week, and we continue to have a very healthy dialogue," Fisher’s agent, Todd Reynolds, told ESPN.com on Thursday. "It’s clear that it’s everyone’s goal is for Fish to stay there. It’s just that we have a little differing opinion on where the market is on him. And that’s nothing new in our business." Both sides are willing to work with a two-year offer but they have yet to agree on a dollar amount.

Fisher can became an unrestricted free-agent on July 1st, but both sides would like to get a deal done before then. "We're making progress," Reynolds said. The re-signing of pending free agent Mike Fisher is a top priority of GM David Poile.

"Mike Fisher, we would love to have him back," Poile said. "He represents so much to our team, both on and off the ice. ... He's a real leader. I truly feel that the best place for Mike is here in Nashville. As long as I'm the manager, he can play as long as he wants." The interest is mutual as Fisher would love to be back with the Predators. He has been Nashville's highest-scoring forward, with 172 points, since joining the team via a trade from Ottawa in February of 2011.

Mike Fisher's status is cloudy for Thursday night due to a lower-body injury.

"We don't speculate on in or out," Fisher said after the morning skate. "I don't want to talk about lineups. Obviously, I'm hoping to get back sometime soon. We're in a position where we just need to win tonight. These guys have responded well all year, so we're looking just (to) play as hard as we can." He sat out the two games of the regular season with a lower-body injury and then left Game 1 early.

Mike Fisher (lower body) won't play in Game 3 against Chicago on Sunday.

The Predators will have their work cut out for themselves as they will be without Fisher and Shea Weber. Fisher also missed game two, which the Predators won, but it will be interesting to see when he is able to return. He should be considered day-to-day right now.
Apr 19 - 3:05 PM

Mike Fisher did not play Friday night in Game 2 and may also miss Game 3 due to a lower-body injury.

There are no further updates out of Nashville regarding Fisher's condition, so we have to assume he is questionable for Sunday's Game 3. Adjust your roster accordingly.
