Mike Fisher has announced his retirement.
Fisher played 1,088 NHL games in 17 seasons with Nashville and Ottawa. He produced 585 career points and 807 penalty minutes. The 37-year-old made the decision in a letter to The Tennessean. "I'll miss my teammates, my coaches and the game itself," Fisher wrote. "This is the hardest decision I've ever had to make, but I know I've made the right one. I've decided to retire from the NHL." Fisher served as captain of the Predators during his final campaign with the team. Aug 3 - 8:52 AM

Nashville GM David Poile expects to have a better understanding of what Mike Fisher's decision is regarding his future by next week.

Fisher is still an unrestricted free agent and he has been contemplating retirement. "He is on vacation, and I have been away and (focused on preparing for arbitration hearings)," Poile said Monday. "I'm hoping to talk to him later this week to see where he's at. I'd say by next week, we should have an update." The Predators would like to have their captain back for another season.
Jul 25 - 2:45 PM

Mike Fisher hasn't decided yet if he will return to the NHL next season.

He is still going over his options. "Everyone wants to win in this game, no one probably more than me," Fisher said. "But there's other things. At the end of the day, this is a game. It's an important part of my life, but it's not everything and there's other decisions and other people that are involved, so we'll take those into account. For me, it's faith, family and then hockey. So we'll see where that fits in because, like I said, I love being part of this group. I had a blast." He can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and he is also considering retirement.
Jun 14 - 2:40 PM

Mike Fisher can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and retirement could be a possibility.

GM David Poile wants Fisher to be back playing for the Predators next season. He posted 18 goals and 42 points in 72 contests in 2016-17. Nashville values the leadership of their team captain and a decision on the matter is expected to come soon.
Jun 14 - 1:12 PM

Mike Fisher remains goalless in 19 games so far this post-season.

Fisher entered the Cup Final with zero points in his last 14 games but has now picked up four assists in the first five games of the Final. Sunday can be Fisher's last chance at a Stanley Cup and time is running out for him to find the back of the net and make a big impact for his team.
Jun 10 - 6:52 PM

Mike Fisher celebrated his 37th birthday on Monday and earned an assist in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Fisher celebrated his birthday with a 4-1 win over Pittsburgh. He has collected four assists in the series versus Pittsburgh after failing to record a point in his previous 14 playoff contests.
Jun 6 - 9:03 AM

Mike Fisher registered an assist in Nashville's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Fisher didn't register a point in his first 14 playoff games in 2017, but he has three assists in his last two contests. Unfortunately for the Predators his recent offensive surge hasn't tipped the scales in their favor as Nashville still trails 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final.
Jun 1 - 10:02 AM

Nashville captain Mike Fisher drew two assists in the opening game of the Stanley Cup Final Monday night, a 5-3 loss to the Penguins in Pittsburgh.

Fisher missed the Preds' previous two games with an injury that was not disclosed publicly. He did not have a point in the 14 playoff games in which he did play. With wife/singer Carrie Underwood in the crowd, Fisher grabbed assists on the Preds' strong comeback attempt. They were down 3-0 after the first period but tied it 3-3. Fisher assisted on a power-play goal by Ryan Ellis at 8:21 of the second period. He assisted on the game-tying goal by Frederick Gaudreau at 13:21 of the third period. Colton Sissons had the Preds' second goal at 10:06 of the second period. Sissons' goal was his sixth of the postseason. Ellis' goal was his fifth and Gaudreau's was his first.
May 29 - 11:35 PM

Mike Fisher is projected to play between Viktor Arvidsson and James Neal in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

He skated on that line during Sunday's practice, so he could be in that spot on Monday night in his return from injury. Fisher missed two games with an unknown issue, but he is ready to play again. He has zero points in 14 playoff games.
May 29 - 11:23 AM

Mike Fisher (undisclosed) is expected to be available for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, per Predators coach Peter Laviolette.

Fisher returned to practice on Thursday and said that he felt pretty good, so it's not surprising to see him projected to return. It's also a big boost for the Predators to get a center back given that Ryan Johansen won't be available for the Stanley Cup Final.
May 28 - 2:43 PM

Mike Fisher (undisclosed) practiced on Thursday for the first time since he was hurt on May 18.

"I feel pretty good," Fisher said. "I skated a few days here. Still not cleared, but it felt good to get out there with the guys." The hope is that Fisher will be available for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday. He has no points in 14 postseason games this year.

May 24 - 3:20 PM

Mike Fisher (undisclosed) isn't available for Game 6 Monday night.

That's not really surprising given that Fisher also missed the Monday morning skate. This will be his second straight contest on the sidelines.
May 22 - 8:03 PM

Mike Fisher (undisclosed) didn't take part in Nashville's morning skate.

We don't know yet if Fisher will be available for Monday's contest, but it seems unlikely given this development. He wasn't able to play in Game 5 on Saturday after being hurt in Game 4.
May 22 - 12:02 PM

Mike Fisher, who did not play in Game 5 Saturday night due to an undisclosed injury, is considered day-to-day.

It is unclear if Fisher will be able to suit up Monday for Game 6. If he can't go Frederick Gaudreau, who played a strong game Saturday night, will take his place once again.
