Montreal Canadiens forward Jeff Halpern hopes to be back with the team in 2013-14.
Of course, the feeling might not necessarily be mutual. He managed one point in three playoff games after producing just three in 46 regular season contests, so his defense would need to be stellar to draw any interest in a return. It's reasonable to wonder if he'll catch on with any team next season, let alone the Habs. May 11 - 3:19 PM

Jeff Halpern earned an assist in his return to the lineup Tuesday night.

He got the chance to play due to injuries up front to Brian Gionta and Ryan White. Halpern's previous appearance against Ottawa in Montreal's quarterfinal series came in Game 2.
May 8 - 7:08 AM

Jeff Halpern scored his first goal of the season in a 4-1 win over Carolina Monday night.

His second-period marker held up as the game winner. Halpern has been getting more ice time in Montreal than he was as a Ranger, but he still shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.
Apr 2 - 8:24 AM

Jeff Halpern made his Montreal Canadiens debut this season in Tuesday's loss to Pittsburgh.

He was credited with four hits, won 11 of 18 faceoffs and played a season-high 14:51 of ice time. Halpern received under 10 minutes of playing time during his last five contests with the Rangers prior to being placed on waivers. "He did a lot of good things; he did the things we expected of him," coach Michel Therrien said. "That's the reason he's on our team. He was good on the penalty kill and I like the way he played 5-on-5."
Mar 27 - 10:31 AM

Jeff Halpern has been claimed off of waivers by the Montreal Canadiens.

Halpern has an assist in 30 games in 2013. This move will help his fantasy value in the sense that this move will likely keep him in the NHL for the time being, but obviously you still don't want to own him in anything but the deepest of leagues.
Mar 23 - 12:12 PM

Jeff Halpern has been placed on waivers by the New York Rangers.

He has one assist in 30 games this season, while skating on the fourth line and doesn't have any fantasy value.
Mar 22 - 1:42 PM

Jeff Halpern has agreed to a one-year/$700,000 deal with the New York Rangers.

Halpern scored four goals and registered 12 assists with the Washington Capitals last season. He should battle for a spot on the New York Rangers' third or fourth line during training camp.

Capitals GM George McPhee has informed Jeff Halpern that Washington will not offer him a contract extension.

As a result, Halpern will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Halpern isn't surprised by McPhee's decision. "I just think how the last 20 games went, it was there," Halpern said. "You do your part and see where you fit in and I think I was able to do what I was brought in to do when I was given an opportunity to play. I was happy with how I played this year and when I talked to George, he agreed, but going into next year that spot has kind of been filled." He had four goals and 16 points in 69 games last season.

Jeff Halpern is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and he isn't sure if he will back with the Washington Capitals in 2012-13.

"I have a good relationship with [General Manager] George [McPhee]," Halpern said. "I'll talk to George, I would expect. And I'm sure that we'll be honest with each other in our year-end meetings and go from there. I was pretty happy up until a couple months ago with how I played. And whatever happens in a summer, you go through it and take it from there." He is hopeful that he'll have options if it doesn't work out. Halpern had a hard time playing after coach Dale Hunter took over and was scratched for 12 of the team's final 15 regular season games. He played in two playoff contests, but that was only after Jay Beagle broke his foot in Game 5 versus the Rangers. With Hunter gone, it could make him more willing to return but of course the Capitals would have to want him back as well.

Jay Beagle (lower-body injury) is highly doubtful to play for the Capitals in tonight's seventh and series-deciding game against the Rangers in New York, meaning Jeff Halpern will be in the Washington lineup.

Halpern replaced Beagle in Game 6 of this series Wednesday night and "I thought he had good pop out there," coach Dale Hunter said of Halpern’s performance in Game 6, which was the veteran center’s first game since March 23 against Winnipeg. "He played very well and took big faceoffs. Your timing can be off, sitting for seven weeks, but he looked fine and did a good job for us. You need that, especially on the right side. It’s key."

Jeff Halpern will replace Jay Beagle in the lineup in Game 6 Wednesday night.

Beagle is sidelined with a lower-body injury, according to the Capitals. Halpern, who will suit up in his first game of the postseason and his first contest since March 23rd, could end centering Matt Hendricks and Troy Brouwer against the Rangers.

Jeff Halpern is expected to spend his third straight game in the press box on Tuesday.

Washington has been winning lately and Capitals coach Dale Hunter doesn't like to alter his lineup during a winning streak. Halpern has four goals and 15 points in 66 games in 2011-12.

Jeff Halpern has been a healthy scratch for Washington's last two games.

"We wanted to get bigger and Mike [Knuble] is a bigger guy," said coach Dale Hunter when asked about the decision. "And [Jay Beagle] is doing a good job checking, so it was a combination of both." Halpern's 58.3 winning percentage on faceoffs is tied for third best in the NHL, but he has only 15 points in 66 games this season.

Capitals center Jeff Halpern was critical of himself and his teammates after Washington was embarrassed 5-0 by the New Jersey Devils Friday night.

After the third goal, we just seemed like a deflated team," Halpern said. "It’s a complete knock on the guys in the room. All of us, myself included, for having absolutely no response." Halpern said the Caps showed "a lack of pride." Teammate Troy Brouwer took it a step further. ""I don’t think we worked very hard in the third period," Brouwer said. "I thought we packed it in. We looked like a real timid, beaten-down hockey team. We have to make sure there’s no quit in us ever ’cause nobody is ever out of a game."

Jeff Halpern was the lone goal scorer for the Capitals in a 5-1 loss to Philadelphia Tuesday night.

Halpern's third marker of the season was the only puck the team could push past Flyers netminder Ilya Bryzgalov on this night. The Capitals had won three of their prior four games before losing this contest to the Eastern Conference leaders.
