The 35-year-old missed a good chunk of October with a back injury, but he will serve as a healthy scratch tonight. He has no points in four games this season. This will be Stuart's fourth game as a healthy scratch. Nate Guenin will also watch the game from the press box.

He has been a healthy scratch in three of the first four games. Stuart had a minus-1 rating in 12:05 of ice time in a 2-1 loss to Los Angeles.

Grigorenko and Gormley are two young players that should get an opportunity to crack Colorado's roster at some point this season. Stuart, 35, averaged just over 20 minutes per game on the blueline with Colorado.

He cut his leg in Thursday's contest and will not be able to suit up. The Avs recalled Duncan Siemens from Lake Erie of the AHL to take Stuart's place.

Brad Stuart led all skaters with eight hits, and collected an assist in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Coyotes.

Stuart's assist came when Freddie Hamilton re-directed his shot for his first career NHL goal. Stuart now has nine assists and 11 points on the season, and the eight hits raises his season total to 139 through 54 games.

Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy said that Brad Stuart was "phenomenal" in Saturday night's win over Calgary.

"Brad Stuart was phenomenal," Roy said of the veteran Avalanche defenseman. "I know he doesn't have (one of the) stars because we're looking at stats, scores and stuff like this, but he was really good. He blocked a lot of shots, he was physical and he played really good on the PK. I thought it was a great team effort. It was a good moment to have a solid game like we had."

Brad Stuart will play in his 1000th career NHL game on Thursday night in Pittsburgh.

"It’s a nice accomplishment, something that you don’t really think about when you come into the league," Stuart said. "You’re just trying to stay in the league and establish yourself, and then as I got closer and closer I realized how it’s a pretty good milestone for someone to play that many games. It’s a lot games, but I’ve had a lot of fun and made a lot of good memories." The Avalanche will honor Stuart on December 23rd at the Pepsi Center.

Stuart will be inserted into the Avalanche's lineup on Thursday. He has no points and six penalty minutes in 14 games this season. Zach Redmond might be sent to the press box to accommodate Stuart's return.

Look for Brad Stuart to return for one of Colorado's three games on their upcoming road trip.

Stuart, who has been sidelined since November 4th with a hamstring injury, is getting close to a reurn as he practised on Friday and could play in Pittsburgh on Thursday or Buffalo next Saturday.
