Brenden Morrow has signed a one-day contract with the Dallas Stars.
Morrow did that so that he could retire as a member of the team that drafted him. Morrow spent the first 835 games of his 991 career with the Stars before participating in stints with Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Tampa Bay. He finished with 265 goals, 575 points, and 1,362 penalty minutes. He also served as the Stars captain from 2006-13. Over the course of his career he enjoyed some deep playoff runs, including his trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015, but he was never able to raise the Cup. In his retirement letter, he mentioned, "I’ll always be thankful for the fans who helped us build a hockey culture in Texas. Stars fans love the game for all the right reasons. I wanted to give them a Stanley Cup so, so badly. It just wasn’t in the cards, but I’ll always be proud of what we accomplished together." Thu, Mar 17, 2016 02:09:00 PM

Brenden Morrow, who is thinking about playing one more season before he retires, wants to return to the Lightning.

Morrow, 36, is an unrestricted free agent and he certainly enjoyed his time in Tampa despite the fact the Lightning did not win the Stanley Cup. When asked if he would like to play again for the Bolts, Morrow had this to say: "Absolutely, 100 percent. I've had more fun here in this short time than I've had in I don't know how many years." It remains to be seen if Tampa has the budget or the desire to re-sign Morrow.

Brenden Morrow is back in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2000.

At the time he was a rookie with the Dallas Stars. "I do remember thinking that we’ll get it next year or the next," Morrow said. "I mean, we had one of the highest payrolls in the league and we just won the Cup in 1999, so I kind of figured it was a matter of time. It's a great lesson in how you never know how things are going to work out." At the age of 36, Morrow isn't playing in nearly as big a role this time around. He's searching for his first point of the postseason and has been limited to 8:57 minutes per game.

Tampa Bay Lightning winger Brenden Morrow could join the "Triple Gold Club" if he wins a Stanley Cup.

His nice NHL career included an Olympic gold medal back in 2010. At the moment, he has 575 points in 991 career regular season games and 46 points in 112 career playoff contests. Morrow isn't a significant contributor any longer, but he's had a good run that could include a rare accomplishment.

Brenden Morrow is making sure that Tampa Bay's young players don't take their long playoff run for granted.

Morrow explained to his teammates how he went to the Stanley Cup final with Dallas in his rookie year, but he hasn't returned since. "I just laid out how my career went, starting with a trip to the Stanley Cup final in my rookie year and how I’ve never been back since," said Morrow. "Don’t just take it for granted. Have no regrets, play hard, enjoy the opportunity because you never know, especially in a salary-cap world, how often a team like this can be put together." The Lightning have a good chore of young players, but Morrow does have a point. It's extremely difficult to compete year-in and year-out in a salary cap world.

Brenden Morrow returned to action on Saturday.

Morrow played 9:12, the least of any Tampa Bay forward. He has certainly fallen from his status six years ago when he was the best power forward in the NHL as he has only three goals and eight points in 64 games this season.

There is a chance Brenden Morrow will be able to play in Saturday afternoon's game against Detroit.

He has been dealing with an upper-body injury that kept him from playing Thursday. Morrow reported feeling better on Friday and is listed as questionable for Saturday's contest. Of course, even if he is healthy he could still sit in the press box as a scratch. Morrow's fantasy value has long been reduced to zero.
