The Columbus Blue Jackets have named former NHLer Jarkko Ruutu as their European player development coach.
Ruutu retired from hockey in December after playing the last three seasons in the Finnish SM-liiga. He played 652 NHL games with Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Ottawa and Anaheim and GM Jarmo Kekalainen is looking forward to having Ruutu work with the Blue Jacket prospects. "I absolutely want a person and a player like Jarkko around our young guys," Kekalainen said. "This is a guy who worked his (butt) off and did everything he could to get to the league and stay there. His work ethic earned him everything he’s got. There’s a great lesson there." Sun, Jul 5, 2015 05:17:00 AM

Jarkko Ruutu registered two assists, but Jokerit still lost to Assat 4-3 on Saturday.

The agitating forward has been playing in Finland since 2011-12. He hasn't played in the NHL since 2010-11, when he spent part of the season with Ottawa and then finished with Anaheim. At 37, it's unclear if he'll get another shake at the NHL level, yet he's at least producing well overseas.

Jarkko Ruutu is reportedly in talks with Metallurg Novokuznetsk about joining the KHL this season.

He was not retained by the Anaheim Ducks following the 2010-11 campaign and is seeking a new team. Ruutu recorded 12 points and 97 penalty minutes in 73 games last season with Ottawa and Anaheim. He is one of the top agitators in the league, so he could still draw back into the NHL for 2011-12.

Jarkko Ruutu will be looking for a new team next season as the Anaheim Ducks have decided not to re-sign him.

The Ducks acquired Ruutu in a trade with the Ottawa Senators at the trade deadline and he helped Anaheim get into the playoffs. He earned $1.3 million last season and will look for a similar deal from another NHL club when free agency begins on Friday.

Jarkko Ruutu is eligible to return to action on Sunday as he has served his one game suspension.

Ruutu was suspended for his late hit on Martin Erat on Wednesday in Game 4 and sat out Game 5. The Ducks are on the verge of losing the series as they trail the Predators three games to two with Sunday's game in Nashville. Do not expect to see Ruutu in the lineup as coach Randy Carlyle used him as a replacement for the previously suspended Bobby Ryan.

Jarkko Ruutu has been suspended one game by the NHL for his late hit on Nashville's Martin Erat on Wednesday night.

Erat sustained an upper-body injury on the play and Ruutu received a two-minute penalty for interference. Ducks coach Randy Carlyle thought that it was "absurd" that the league was even looking at the hit. Ruutu will be eligible to return for Game 6 on Sunday.

Jarkko Ruutu could be going in front of the NHL disciplinary committee for his hit on the Predators Martin Erat Wednesday.

Ruutu hit Erat in the neutral zone during the second period, knocking him to the ice. Erat did not return and could be day-to-day with an upper body injury. "I don't think so," Ruutu said when asked if he could be suspended. "It's just a hockey hit. It wasn't in the head or anything. I wanted to get near him. Just at the last second, he turned into me. It's a hockey hit. I actually saw his eyes." Stay tuned.

Randy Carlyle is pleased with his new third line of Jarkko Ruutu, Todd Marchant and Dan Sexton.

Ruutu and Marchant have been outstanding of late on the penalty kill and the duo together with Sexton have played very well as a defensive force on the third unit. "We have some interchangeable parts, but first and foremost, they have to provide energy, they have to be responsible defensively," Carlyle said. "That's what we ask of them, and they seem content on doing that right now for us." This line bodes well for the Ducks chances to make the playoffs although all three have limited fantasy value at best.

Jarkko Ruutu will see action on the fourth line with the Anaheim Ducks.

Ruutu was dealt to the Ducks by the Senators on Thursday and is looking forward to playing in a playoff race. "That's what it's all about," Ruutu said. "When you're not in the playoffs, you're not really playing for anything. Getting traded to a team that is playing really well lately and in the playoff race with how tight it is in the West, it's really exciting for me." Ruutu had 10 points and 59 penalty minutes in 50 games with Ottawa and will likely get a few more penalty minutes to give him a touch more fantasy value in pools that use the category.

The Ottawa Senators have sent Jarkko Ruutu to Anaheim for a sixth round draft pick.

Ottawa certainly isn't waiting until the trade deadline to sell off several of their veteran players. Ruutu joins Chris Kelly and Mike Fisher as the players Ottawa has traded over the past week. Ruutu had 10 points and 59 penalty minutes in 50 games with Ottawa in 2010-11. We don't foresee this trade significantly altering Ruutu's fantasy value.

Jarkko Ruutu will return to the Ottawa lineup on Wednesday from a lower-body injury.

The Senators' agitator has not played since Jan. 20 due to the ailment. Ruutu has very little fantasy value this season.
