Ivan Rodriguez held his retirement press conference Monday afternoon at the Ballpark in Arlington.
Rodriguez was joined by his agent, Scott Boras, and several former Rangers teammates, including the rarely-seen Rafael Palmeiro. The 21-year major league catcher was introduced by former Rangers GM Tom Grieve and current Rangers president Nolan Ryan before making a short, emotional statement. He amassed 2,844 hits, 311 home runs and 13 Gold Gloves in his big league career.
Mon, Apr 23, 2012 03:17:00 PM
Ivan Rodriguez has officially announced his retirement.
It was first reported by Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald Wednesday and now is official following a press release from the Rangers. Pudge will be honored at a ceremony in Arlington on Monday. A sure Hall of Famer, Rodriguez finishes his career with 2,844 hits, 311 homers and a .296/.344/.464 slash line to go along with 13 Gold Gloves.

According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, Ivan Rodriguez will announce his retirement Monday.
Pudge failed to attract interest on the free agent market this winter and spring after batting just .218/.281/.323 with two home runs and 19 RBI in 137 plate appearances last season for the Nationals. He'll finish up with 2,844 career hits, 311 career homers and a .296/.344/.464 career slash line. The 21-year major league veteran won 13 Gold Glove awards and will go down as one of the best defensive catchers of all time.

According to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star, the Royals have not made an offer to Ivan Rodriguez.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported Saturday afternoon that the Royals proposed a deal to Pudge that included an invitation to spring training. But that's apparently not the case. Kansas City will likely use Brayan Pena as its primary catcher until Salvador Perez is recovered from knee surgery.

Nationals placed C Wilson Ramos on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
Ramos missed a couple weeks last month with the same injury. He doesn't think the strain is too bad, but it's possible the Nats will play it safe and hold him out longer this time around.

Bryce Harper (knee) is not in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.
Harper is still feeling banged up from last week's collision with the Dodger Stadium outfield wall. It's his left knee that has been bothering him most. He'll try to return to the Nationals' starting lineup on Monday.

Jayson Werth is going to Chicago to see another specialist regarding his tight right hamstring.
Werth suffered a setback in his rehab Wednesday when he felt some tightness in his hamstring during a game at High-A Potomac. He saw a doctor in New York on Saturday, and he'll see another one in Chicago early next week. He is still hoping to return to the Nationals' lineup by Friday but that seems unlikely to happen.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson confirmed Friday that Ross Detwiler will not make his scheduled start against the Giants on Monday due to a lower back injury.
Detwiler was required to leave his most recent start on Wednesday due to back spasms. No word yet on whether he'll require a trip to the disabled list. Craig Stammen is expected to replace Detwiler in the rotation while he's out.

Christian Garcia (forearm) has been throwing from a mound and will begin incorporating curveballs on Thursday.
He'll then throw live batting practice after that before heading out on a rehab assignment, though it's not clear when he'll be ready for that. The Nats were planning on stretching Garcia out as a starter prior to his forearm injury, and they still might, but it depends on what the big club needs by the time the righty is healthy.
