Phillies manager Charlie Manuel told Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Jim Thome still hopes to continue his career.
"He still thinks he can play," said Manuel. "He misses the game. Baseball is his identity. That’s all he’s done for 20-some years or so. He's kind of having a hard time adjusting." The 42-year-old wasn't able to find the right fit this winter, but he's currently training in Arizona in hopes of latching on with a team at some point this season. We wouldn't rule out the chance that he'll surface with an American League club as a part-time DH or bench bat. He currently ranks seventh all-time with 612 home runs.

Lavelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune writes that the chances of the Twins signing Jim Thome are "very slim."
"I would doubt there would be any outside solutions,’’ manager Ron Gardenhire said of adding someone to the team's bench. Gardy reportedly would like the club to bring in Thome, but the higher-ups don't appear to have interest in making it happen. Thome, 42, is interested in continuing his career, but it looks like he'll start the season without a team.

Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN.com reports that Twins manager Ron Gardenhire wants the club to sign Jim Thome.
Wolfson says there's "mutual interest," but the holdup could be that Thome is insisting on a major league deal. The Twins already have a few players capable of shifting back-and-forth between DH, first base and corner outfield duties, so there probably wouldn't be a ton of at-bats available for the 42-year-old. Thome is sitting on 612 career homers but isn't ready to call it a career just yet.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Indians are no longer pursuing veteran slugger Jim Thome.
The Indians considered the possibility, but they don't one to commit the roster spot to one player. Thome, 42, is working out in hopes of playing his 23rd season in the majors. He's currently sitting on 612 career homers, which is seventh on the all-time list.

It's been very slow progress for Betemit in his recovery from surgery to repair a PCL tear in his right knee. He still has yet to be cleared to resume baseball activities, and the timetable for his return continues to be pushed back. He's virtually irrelevant for fantasy purposes at this point.

Orioles placed OF Nolan Reimold on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12, with a right hamstring strain.
It's the reason why Reimold was held out of the Orioles' lineup for the fifth straight day Saturday. Chris Dickerson will likely get the majority of starts at designated hitter in his absence. Given his injury history, Reimold could be looking at an extended stay on the DL.

Chen landed on the 15-day disabled list May 13 with a strained right oblique and can't pick up a baseball for at least another week. But he's allowed to do cardio work while he waits. The right-hander should be ready to rejoin the O's starting rotation in early June.

Miguel Gonzalez (thumb) is expected to be activated to start Tuesday against the Yankees.
Gonzalez was cleared to return after he threw a simulated game Friday with no issues. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since May 4 with a blister on his right thumb. He has a 4.58 ERA and 22/14 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings in six starts this season.

Tsuyoshi Wada (elbow) allowed four runs over four innings Thursday in a rehab start at Triple-A Norfolk.
Wada gave up three hits and issued two walks but he fanned five batters and made it all the way to 78 pitches (45 of which were strikes). He's on his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and is aiming to join the Orioles' starting rotation at some point in early-to-mind June. The left-hander signed a two-year, $8.15 million contract with the O's in December 2011 but has not yet thrown a pitch in a major league game.
