Jake Peavy suggested the Padres should sign free agent Kenny Lofton.
"I like Kenny," said Peavy. "I think he'd bring a dimension to this ballclub that we don't have any of -- we have no team speed. It's not my call. It's not my decision. But he'd definitely be a spark." It's true the Padres lack speed, but its also true that it's not Peavy's call. General manager Kevin Towers said Friday night "if there are moves to be made in the next couple of weeks, they'll probably be from within. My eyes are more on the (Triple-A) Portland team."

Free agent Kenny Lofton admitted he turned down an offer from the Rays that would have paid him over $1 million.
Lofton made $6 million last season and doesn't see why he should settle for so much less now, especially since he'd be serving as a part-timer on a probable non-contender. The problem is that he isn't believed to have any standing offers, and even the teams that could use center-field help would prefer to give their current guys extended tryouts in April.

ESPN's Jayson Stark said it's believed the Rays made free agent Kenny Lofton an offer in the last 48 hours, but it wasn't accepted.
Despite being unemployed at such a late date, Lofton is still apparently being rather picky. If there's anyone else interested in him, they're keeping it quiet. The Reds were, but that was before they signed Corey Patterson.

The Tampa Tribune reports that the Rays are interested in Kenny Lofton.
With Rocco Baldelli's health status uncertain, the Rays could throw Lofton into the mix with Cliff Floyd and Jonny Gomes between right field and designated hitter. The newspaper notes that the Mets may also be pursuing the 41-year-old veteran following Moises Alou's hernia surgery.

Lou Marson (shoulder) admitted Monday that there is no timetable for his return to the Indians' active roster.
Marson has begun throwing but is not yet performing any other baseball activities due to lingering soreness in his shoulder and neck. "It's definitely frustrating," the catcher told MLB.com. "I know what it is and kind of what I have to do. Hopefully, I can get on the field soon."

Myers' velocity was down on Wednesday in his second rehab outing with Double-A Akron, and he walked four while allowing three runs over 4 1/3 frames. Assuming his velocity comes back up the next time out, he could rejoin the Indians' rotation after that.

Josh Tomlin (Tommy John surgery) could return near the end of the season.
Tomlin went under the knife last August. At this point in his rehab, it's hard to predict if a 2013 return is in the cards. Tomlin has said he'd rather be 100 percent for 2014 rather than making a premature late-season return this year. The right-hander posted a 6.36 ERA in 16 starts and five relief appearances with the Indians last season.

Wood felt some soreness in his surgically-repaired elbow during his first appearance on Saturday, but it was only a minor scare. The 27-year-old right-hander is currently in recovery mode from Tommy John surgery and will likely need a handful of appearances before he's a legitimate consideration for the major league roster.

Indians transferred RHP Frank Herrmann from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Robert Whitenack on the 40-man roster. Herrmann had Tommy John surgery in March and will miss the entire 2013 season.
