Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Monday that he plans to reach out to Chipper Jones' agent.
It's worth a shot, but all indications are that Chipper is happy in retirement. Even if he did entertain the idea of returning it would surely be with the Braves, who could use some help at the hot corner. Cashman is looking for someone that can help out at the corner infield spots with Mark Teixeira sidelined. He's also reached out to Derrek Lee and Scott Rolen.

Chipper Jones, who is serving as a guest instructor for the Braves during spring training, reiterated on Saturday that he hasn't thought once about playing again.
Chipper added that he didn't even want to put on a uniform. The future Hall of Famer appears content in his retirement, though multiple teams have asked the question.

The agent for Chipper Jones said Monday that several teams have called his client to ask if he is truly retired.
And those clubs received a resounding "yes." Jones, 40, hung up his cleats for good after the Braves' loss to the Cardinals in the 2012 Wild Card play-in game. He batted .303/.401/.529 with 2,726 hits, 468 home runs and 1,623 RBI over the course of his 19-year major league career.

Joe Torre, speaking on behalf of Major League Baseball, officially announced that the Braves' protest of Friday's game has been denied.
Torre explained that he disallowed the protest because it was a "judgment call". While it's a tough situation, the odds were extremely unlikely that the call was going to be reversed, even though it probably should have. Still, it's not the reason that the Braves lost the game, as they were still facing a three-run deficit after throwing the ball around the infield all evening.

Braves placed C Evan Gattis on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique.
No word on how or when the injury occurred, but oblique strains usually require some extended rest. Gattis has been one of the best stories in baseball this season, coming out of nowhere to hit .252 with 14 home runs and a .894 OPS in 53 games. Tyler Pastornicky will take his place on the active roster while Gerald Laird will function as the primary backup to Brian McCann.

Braves placed INF Blake DeWitt on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain.
DeWitt appeared in four games with the Braves as a utility infielder. He should be optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett once he's deemed healthy enough to return.

An MRI on Brandon Beachy's elbow taken Saturday showed no structural damage.
Beachy was scratched from his scheduled start against the Mets with tenderness, but the MRI showed only fluid and no damage to the elbow itself. That's good news, as it just requires rest. The Braves aren't hurting for a starter at the moment, so they'll give Beachy all the time he needs as he continues to work his way back from last year's Tommy John surgery.

Jonny Venters underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Thursday afternoon.
It's the second time he's had the procedure in his baseball career. Venters can now be ruled out for the remainder of the 2013 season and is also likely to miss the first couple months of the 2014 campaign. It's obviously a pretty big loss for the Atlanta bullpen.

Eric O'Flaherty
D.L.
Eric O'Flaherty will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn left ulnar collateral ligament.
It was inevitable after an MRI over the weekend revealed the bad news. In addition to obviously missing the rest of this season, O'Flaherty will likely be sidelined for the first couple months of the 2014 campaign, as well.

Braves placed RHP Luis Ayala on the 15-day disabled list with anxiety disorder.
Obviously it's impossible to predict how much time Ayala might miss. David Carpenter has been recalled to take his spot in the bullpen.

Cristhian Martinez
D.L.
Cristhian Martinez (shoulder) still doesn't have a timetable for his return.
The Braves reliever has been sidelined since April 12 with a right shoulder sprain, and apparently it was serious enough that the Braves still don't have any idea when he might be back. The right-hander had a 3.91 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 73 2/3 innings last year.
