In an interview Wednesday with the New York Post, Shawn Green said that he's decided to retire.
Green told the newspaper that he drew interest "from six or seven teams" after hitting .291/.352/.430 for the Mets last season, but indicated that none were close enough to his California home to be appealing. "I wanted to stay here with my family," Green said. "Not travel around the country anymore. I enjoyed playing a lot. I enjoyed New York. But for me, it was time to be home." If Green is truly done, he finishes a 15-year career as a two-time All-Star and .283/.355/.494 hitter with 328 homers and 1,070 RBI.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal believes free agent Shawn Green could retire unless he receives an offer from a West Coast team soon.
It seems doubtful. Green is just 35 and is coming off a nice season. He still figures to find a team willing to give him 300-400 at-bats.

The Rays are looking at Shawn Green, Brad Wilkerson and Geoff Jenkins as right field options.
Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan believes they'll target Green, as the other two are seeking multiyear deals at about $7 million per season. The Giants are also showing some interest in Green, who would prefer to play on the West Coast.

Free agent Shawn Green is open toward returning to the Mets, but he'd like to play for a West Coast team.
The Mets aren't going to bring Green back. He'll probably land a job as a semi-regular player for some team, though he's not a good bet at all going forward.

Jenrry Mejia (elbow) racked up six strikeouts over three innings during his first minor league rehab start with High-A St. Lucie on Friday.
Mejia has been on the disabled list for the entire season with inflammation in his pitching elbow. He's likely to require a relatively lengthy rehab assignment, and shouldn't be expected to return to the Mets until early June. Should he secure a spot in the Mets rotation, he could carve out a decent amount of value in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

The move cleared a spot on the Mets' 40-man roster for Aaron Laffey. Santana (shoulder) won't pitch this season.

Francisco was diagnosed with a mild strain of the flexor pronator in his right elbow last week, but he's already back at it. However, it's not clear if he's throwing from a mound or simply playing catch or long-tossing. Either way, he's not close to rejoining the Mets' bullpen.

Mets placed RHP Scott Atchison on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow.
Collin McHugh was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the vacant bullpen spot. Atchison has been shut down for a week and prescribed anti-inflammatory medication. It's not clear when he might return.

If all goes well, Familia should quickly move up to Triple-A Las Vegas. He should get another chance in the major league bullpen before long. The 23-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since May 8 with right biceps tendinitis.
