Free agent Jeff Cirillo is leaning towards retirement since the Brewers aren't interested in his services.
Cirillo, who lives in Seattle, said he was only interested in leaving his family if the Brewers wanted him back. The Mariners don't need him, so it could be that he's done. He indicated that he might join the Brewers in a non-playing role.

The Brewers have told free agent Jeff Cirillo they don't have a spot for him in 2008.
Milwaukee has Joe Dillon to fill a role as a backup corner infielder and right-handed pinch-hitter. Cirillo is hoping to continue his career at age 38, but his .249/.316/.368 line for the Twins and Diamondbacks last season isn't going to help his chances.

Manager Bob Melvin says he will start Jeff Cirillo at second base for Monday's Game 4 of the NLCS.
Cirillo is starting over Augie Ojeda in an effort to ignite the Diamondbacks' stagnant offense. It will be the 48th start at second for Cirillo in his 14-year career.

Jeff Cirillo ended the longest active major league streak without making the playoffs, 1,617 games, when the Diamondbacks qualified this weekend.
"Even though I had to piggy-back to get there, it’s still nice to do it," Cirillo said. "I couldn’t be happier here. These kids … they don’t know." Cirillo is hitting just .200 since signing with the D-Backs, but he will make the NLDS roster.

Aaron Hill will have his left hand examined by a doctor next Monday.
That will be two weeks after Hill was hoping to get the go-ahead to resume baseball activities, as his fractured hand is healing much slower than expected. The original timetable had him possibly returning by late May, but he probably won't be activated until well into June now.

Adam Eaton (elbow) played five innings in center field for High-A Visalia on Friday.
It's the first time he's played the field during his rehab assignment, as he had been limited to DH duty. Eaton was scheduled to play the field again on Saturday before being re-evaluated by the Diamondbacks. He should be activated before the end of the month. Manager Kirk Gibson said he's "not really worried about" finding enough playing time for all the members of a deep group of outfielders. "If we have guys, we’ll find places for them to play," the manager added.

Daniel Hudson (elbow) gave up two runs on five hits over four innings in an extended spring training game on Friday.
It's the first time since last year's Tommy John surgery that Hudson has faced hitters wearing a different uniform. The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said. Hudson will appear in another extended spring game next week and doesn't appear far off from a rehab assignment. He could be back as soon as late June if all goes well, though the big club doesn't currently have room for him in the rotation.

J.J. Putz will not require major elbow surgery.
Putz has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament, a strained flexor pronator and nerve irritation in his right elbow -- all of which can be addressed through rehab. He will try to return before the end of the 2013 season. Heath Bell has taken over Arizona's ninth-inning gig.
