After giving up two runs in his inning against the Red Sox last night, Gabe White told the Twins he's retiring.
It had to be Enrique Wilson's triple that told White he was done. "I just laid awake all night last night, staring at the TV," White said. "Physically and mentally, it's just time to move on. Just time to let somebody else do it." White, 34, apparently ends his career with a 4.51 ERA in 570 2/3 innings. His best season was 2000, when he had 11 relief victories and a 2.17 ERA in 83 innings for the Rockies. It was truly one of the best years any reliever has had this decade.

Twins signed LHP Gabe White to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 34-year-old White allowed two runs in 8 1/3 innings for the Cardinals during May and June last season. he would probably be a better choice than Dennys Reyes for a spot in Minnesota's pen, but the Twins could get by without either.

Cardinals designated LHP Gabe White for assignment.
Some club may want him. White had allowed two runs in 8 1/3 innings since being called up a month ago.

Cardinals purchased the contract of RHP Gabe White from Triple-A Memphis.
White had pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings since joining Memphis. He should be able to help the Cardinals as a middle reliever.

The good news is that Florimon isn't expected to miss much time after leaving Thursday's game with a right index finger sprain. Eduardo Escobar is likely to be at shortstop for the Twins Friday.

Trevor Plouffe passed an imPACT concussion test on Thursday.
Plouffe took a knee to the head Tuesday night when he tried to break up a double play and was placed on the 7-day disabled list because of his initial wooziness. However, he has already done some cardio work and should return right around when he's first eligible.

Darin Mastroianni underwent surgery Thursday to repair bone chips on his left ankle.
The best-case scenario is that Mastroianni will resume weight-bearing activities in three weeks. However, he's expected to be sidelined until the second half of the season.
