Ron Mahay has retired from baseball.
The 41-year-old left-hander is now hoping to get into coaching or managing. Mahay, who hadn't appeared in the majors since 2010, posted a 3.83 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 14 seasons.

The deal includes a spring training invite. Mahay pitched in the minors with the Diamondbacks and Cardinals last season. The 40-year-old left-hander has a 3.83 career ERA over 14 seasons in the major leagues.

Cardinals LHP Ron Mahay has elected to become a free agent.
The Cardinals signed the 40-year-old journeyman to a minor-league contract in early July, and he was quite effective in 11 innings of work for Triple-A Memphis, posting a 1.64 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. He could draw interest from teams looking for a lefty specialist after Arthur Rhodes' signing blocked his path to St. Louis.

Cardinals signed LHP Ron Mahay to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Memphis.
Mahay has been without a job since early May, when he was released by the Diamondbacks after posting a 10.45 ERA in 10 appearances. He could climb to the majors with St. Louis, given the ongoing struggles of lefties Trever Miller and Brian Tallet.

It's merely a procedural move. Ludwick has been ruled out until early July with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

The Reds have determined that Chris Heisey's hamstring aggravation was not severe.
"It wasn’t horrendous," assistant general manager Bob Miller said. "He tweaked it." Heisey won't return until the next homestand, which runs from May 24-28, at the earliest. It's certainly possible his absence could stretch into June.

Johnny Cueto (lat, oblique) has been cleared to return to the Reds' rotation on Monday in New York.
Cueto threw five shutout innings Tuesday in a rehab start with the Low-A Daytona Dragons and deemed himself fully healthy afterward. He was placed on the disabled list April 15 with a strained right lat and then later began experiencing oblique soreness. But all is well now. The Reds haven't decided whether Mike Leake or Tony Cingrani will be demoted to clear a rotation spot.

No word on the timeline for his return, but he'll likely make at least one more appearance before being activated. Parra has an 8.10 ERA and 7/3 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings prior to going down with a strained left pectoral muscle at the end of April.

Masset is still recovering from right shoulder surgery, and he was recently shut down after suffering a setback. The right-hander hasn't pitched since 2011.
