Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Jermaine Dye has decided to retire.
The free agent outfielder was contacted by a handful of teams this offseason but he wanted a guaranteed roster spot. When that didn't happen, he decided to hang it up. The 37-year-old drew lukewarm interest last winter and ended up sitting out the entire 2010 season. He ends his playing days with 325 career home runs.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Jermaine Dye is likely to retire.
The free agent outfielder has been contacted by the Rays, Rockies and Phillies, and has probably been offered a minor league contract or two, but he wants a guaranteed roster spot and it's just not going to happen. "I would still like to play, but I think my choices have passed and teams have gone with other people," Dye said Wednesday. "I will continue to stay in shape and hopefully someone will call. If nothing gets done by the end of the spring, I may call it a career." He boasts 325 career home runs.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, Jermaine Dye intends to play again and has been contacted by the Rays, Rockies and Phillies.
Dye, who turns 37 in January, drew lukewarm interest last winter and ended up sitting out the entire 2010 season. He remains an intriguing righty bat, despite a year away from the game, but the major strike against him is that he is an awful defensive outfielder. He'll probably latch on somewhere, but it will be hard to give him much in the way of a guaranteed base salary.

Jermaine Dye said Saturday that he will not sign with a team this season but intends to play in 2011.
The veteran outfielder drew very little interest this winter and even less interest this summer, but he's working out often and staying in playing shape. Dye, 37 in January, hit 27 homers and tallied 81 RBI for the White Sox in 2009. He'd be a decent fit for a power-needy American League team.

Dewayne Wise (hamstring) is 1-for-7 with a run scored through two rehab games at Triple-A Charlotte.
Wise should return to Chicago's active roster at some point this week. He has been on the disabled list since June 2, retroactive to May 30, with a hamstring strain.

Jake Peavy (rib) has yet to be cleared for conditioning work.
Peavy landed on the disabled list earlier this month due to a non-displaced fracture in his rib cage. While the veteran right-hander is still in shut-down mode, he hopes to ride a stationary bike soon. He could go for an MRI in about a week, after which he could be cleared for more activities. Either way, he's unlikely to rejoin the White Sox until after the All-Star break.

Gavin Floyd
D.L.
Gavin Floyd underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor muscle in his right elbow.
The surgeon told the White Sox that the operation "could not have gone better." However, since he needed two major areas operated on, the recovery is expected to be 14-19 months rather than the standard 12 months for Tommy John surgery. With that timetable, Floyd probably shouldn't be counted on for a whole lot in 2014. He'll be a free agent over the winter.
