Seth Smith went 2-for-4 with a homer, two walks and three runs scored versus the Rangers on Monday.
The A's are hoping Smith's slump is over. His OPS dropped from 1.072 on April 23 to .933 on April 30 to .755 on May 17, but he's now gone 4-for-8 in his last two games. Of course, it was in late April and early May that the A's really needed him. Now that Yoenis Cespedes, Coco Crisp and Chris Young are healthy again, Smith isn't so important to the attack anymore.

Seth Smith went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Indians.
Smith singled and scored in the fourth and added another single in the eighth. He had a chance to come up with a big hit in the ninth but grounded out weakly to the pitcher with the bases loaded. Of course, the A's shouldn't have had to rely on Smith to extend the game. Adam Rosales hit a drive in the ninth inning that clearly hit the railing above the wall in left field, but the Angel Hernandez-led umpire crew failed to reverse their call of a double.

Seth Smith had a nice day at the plate in Saturday's loss to the Yankees, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
It was a refreshing bounceback effort from Smith, who had been 0-for-10 with eight strikeouts over his previous two games. He's now hitting .295/.380/.474 with three homers and 17 RBI on the season. With Chris Young hitting the disabled list on Saturday, Smith should see increased playing time in the coming weeks and is worthy of an add as a fourth or fifth outfielder in mixed fantasy leagues.

Seth Smith belted a two-run homer and also added an RBI on a bases-loaded walk in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.
Smith scored a pair of runs on the night. He was one of a host of offensive stars for the A's in the blowout win, as Coco Crisp, John Jaso, Brandon Moss and Josh Reddick all had multiple hits and multiple RBI. Smith is now sporting a .377 batting mark to go along with two dingers and 10 RBI.

It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) received a day off from his rehab assignment on Saturday but will play in each of the next three games with Triple-A Sacramento.
Nakajima has appeared in four games thus far with Sacramento, going 3-for-15 (.200) with a double and a pair of RBI. He's expected to need a lengthy rehab assignment before joining the Athletics, and isn't a lock to receive significant playing time once he is activated.

Josh Reddick (wrist) will try taking batting practice on Friday.
If it goes well, he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Reddick discussed last week the possibility of surgery on his right wrist, but he's been able to take dry swings with no issues. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, it seems possible that he could be activated sometime next week.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.

Rodriguez will miss the entire 2013 season. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February's Jed Lowrie deal.
