Brian Schneider has retired from baseball.
"It hasn’t been an easy decision, but there are a lot of factors," Schneider said. "You don’t want to retire, but you think of your family and I think more than anything it’s physically how you feel." The 36-year-old will finish his 13-year career with a .247/.320/.369 batting line, 67 homers and 387 RBI.

Phillies transferred C Brian Schneider to the 60-day disabled list.
This is strictly a procedural move. Schneider (hamstring) is out for the year, and could struggle to attract anything more than a minor league contract this offseason.

Brian Schneider (hamstring, ankle) is not expected to return this season.
Schneider was cleared for a rehab assignment at High-A Clearwater, but remains doubtful to be added to the Phillies' roster. Erik Kratz will continue to get an extended look down the stretch.

Phillies placed C Brian Schneider on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
Schneider just returned from an ankle injury on July 31. Splitting time with Erik Kratz in the absence of Carlos Ruiz, Schneider was hitting .200/.273/.300 in August. The 35-year-old backstop will be a free agent in the offseason.

Phillies placed C Carlos Ruiz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 20, with a right hamstring strain.
Ruiz was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his hamstring and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. It's a tough blow for the Phillies, who just got Ruiz back from his suspension less than one month ago. Erik Kratz and Humberto Quintero will fill in behind the plate once again.

Roy Halladay had surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur in his shoulder and repair his torn rotator cuff.
Halladay is hoping to resume throwing in 6-8 weeks and will try to make it back before the end of the 2013 season. The veteran righty had an 8.65 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 35/17 K/BB ratio over his first 34 1/3 innings this season. He can be dropped in all non-keeper leagues.

John Lannan (quad) threw a bullpen session on Saturday afternoon in Clearwater, Florida.
Lannan will throw off a mound again on Monday and should then progress to simulated games. If all goes well, he will join the Phillies at some point in early June. He's been on the disabled list since April 18 with a quad strain.
