Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger was told that the Yankees have not reached out to Aubrey Huff.
The Yankees are looking far and wide for corner infielders, but their search hasn't included Huff, who batted just .192/.326/.282 in 52 games last season. For what it's worth, the 36-year-old said last week that he's "pretty much retired."

Aubrey Huff said that he's "pretty much retired."
Huff, 36, was hoping to get an invitation to spring training from someone, but he's now content staying at home with his family. "I have no regrets," he said. "I love it. I’m having a great time with my wife and kids. I don’t even have an itch to pick up a baseball bat. I wondered if I’d feel that desire when everybody reported to spring training, but I didn’t." Huff's career, if it is indeed over, ended with a whimper, but he still would finish with a career .278/.342/.464 batting line and 242 home runs over 13 seasons.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that free agent Aubrey Huff remains hopeful of playing in 2013.
"He wants to play,'' said Huff's attorney, Ed Hayes. "He's working out. It's not a matter of physical issues. Nor is it a matter of mental issues, which he's addressed." There was a rumor in late November that the Diamondbacks were talking to Huff, but that never went anywhere. The 36-year-old will likely have to settle for a minor league deal after batting just .192/.326/.282 in 52 games last season while dealing with a knee injury and an episode of panic attacks.

Not surprising, as Crawford sprained the index and middle fingers on his right hand during Tuesday's game and is dealing with some swelling. There's a chance he could return Thursday. Joaquin Arias is starting at shortstop Wednesday while Tony Abreu plays third.

Pablo Sandoval (foot) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with High-A San Jose.
It was previously reported that he would begin his rehab assignment on Friday, but it will actually start one day later. Either way, he could be activated from the disabled list when the Giants begin a three-game series in Los Angeles on Monday.

Angel Pagan (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with High-A San Jose.
Pagan received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his hamstring last week and is no longer dealing with soreness. He's slated to play five innings in his return to game action Thursday. It's not clear how many games he'll need, but he appears on track to rejoin the Giants before the end of the month.

Ryan Vogelsong had all five pins removed from his surgically-repaired right hand on Tuesday.
That's good news for Vogelsong, who originally expected to only have two or three pins removed. He'll now have the ability to perform more mobility and flexibility exercises, some of them earlier than expected. As of now, the Giants are hoping to get Vogelsong back near the end of July.

Surkamp, who is making his way back from Tommy John surgery, is expected to spend three weeks in the San Jose rotation. The left-hander could be an option for the Giants in a month or so.
