Nieves was recently non-tendered by the Diamondbacks, but both sides were quickly able to hammer out a new agreement. The 35-year-old is a .229/.274/.301 hitter over nine major league seasons and figures to play sparingly behind starter Miguel Montero.

Nieves was recently non-tendered by the Diamondbacks, but both sides remained motivated to get a deal done. The 35-year-old backstop hit .301/.330/.410 with two homers and eight RBI over 83 at-bats between the Rockies and Diamondbacks this past season and will function as Miguel Montero's backup in 2013.

Diamondbacks claimed C Wil Nieves off waivers from the Rockies.
He'll take the roster spot of Henry Blanco, who was placed on the disabled list. Nieves was recently designated for assignment by the Rockies after batting .298 (14-for-47) with a home run and five RBI in 16 games this season. The .226 career hitter will serve as a backup for Miguel Montero and has no fantasy value.

Aaron Hill was not cleared to resume activities Monday after a doctor determined that his left hand had not healed sufficiently.
"He's going to be waiting and try to get some more growth on that bone," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. Hill to this point has been limited to running and standing in on bullpen sessions to track pitches. It's unlikely that he'll be ready to return before June now.

Adam Eaton (elbow) played five innings in center field for High-A Visalia on Friday.
It's the first time he's played the field during his rehab assignment, as he had been limited to DH duty. Eaton was scheduled to play the field again on Saturday before being re-evaluated by the Diamondbacks. He should be activated before the end of the month. Manager Kirk Gibson said he's "not really worried about" finding enough playing time for all the members of a deep group of outfielders. "If we have guys, we’ll find places for them to play," the manager added.

Daniel Hudson (elbow) gave up two runs on five hits over four innings in an extended spring training game on Friday.
It's the first time since last year's Tommy John surgery that Hudson has faced hitters wearing a different uniform. The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said. Hudson will appear in another extended spring game next week and doesn't appear far off from a rehab assignment. He could be back as soon as late June if all goes well, though the big club doesn't currently have room for him in the rotation.

Putz has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament, a strained flexor pronator and nerve irritation in his right elbow -- all of which can be addressed through rehab. He will try to return before the end of the 2013 season. Heath Bell has taken over Arizona's ninth-inning gig.
