Jason Bay is nursing a sore hamstring.
Bay normally would have started Monday against Angels lefty Jason Vargas, but he felt his hamstring tighten up during Sunday's game. "He got a little knot in there," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. "We got him out here early and tried to have him run a little bit, but we talked about it and felt we'd be putting him in harm's way." Bay is considered day-to-day.

Jason Bay hit a pair of solo homers in Saturday's loss to the Twins.
Well, how about that. Bay now has eight home runs through 117 at-bats, which matches his total from all of last season. It's worth noting that David Wright is the only Mets' player with a higher OPS than Bay (.822) this season. The 34-year-old outfielder might not be relevant in mixed fantasy leagues again, but the change of scenery has worked out pretty well for him so far.
Jun 1 - 4:45 PM
Jason Bay went 2-for-3 and hit a walkoff single in the 13th inning of Sunday's win against the Rangers.
Bay didn't start, but remained in the game after pinch-running for Michael Morse in the ninth inning. With Michael Saunders struggling, the Mariners have been using Bay in their leadoff spot against left-handed pitching. Bay is batting .245/.353/.408 through his first 36 games this season.
May 26 - 9:40 PM
Jason Bay will bat leadoff for the first time in his career Friday night against the Angels.
You read that correctly. The Mariners toyed with the idea during spring training, but Bay will get his first test in a regular season game Friday night with the southpaw C.J. Wilson on the hill. The 34-year-old is clearly done as a middle-of-the-order hitter, but the Mariners hope that his patience will provide some value at the top of the lineup. It could be wishful thinking. Endy Chavez, who went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot Thursday, has been dropped down to eighth.

Michael Morse is not in the Mariners' lineup Tuesday due to his nagging right quad injury.
Morse originally suffered the injury in late May, and he's been unable to totally shake it. The M's have admitted that they would have placed him on the DL earlier had they not been dealing with other injuries, and they're probably wishing they would have gone ahead and done it, anyway. Morse was out testing the quad prior to Tuesday's game and is hoping to be back in the lineup soon.

Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) went 1-for-5 in his first rehab game Wednesday at Triple-A Tacoma.
Gutierrez was on a minor league rehab assignment earlier this month but had to be pulled off it suddenly after experiencing lingering issues with his legs. He rested for about two weeks and is now ready to test himself again. The hope is that Gutierrez will be ready to rejoin the Mariners' active roster within the next 7-10 days.

Mariners transferred RHP Stephen Pryor from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Pryor now won't be eligible to return until mid-June, but he wasn't going to be ready before then, anyway. The hard-thrower recently resumed his throwing program but has yet to test things out from a mound.

Josh Kinney (shoulder, ribs) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Tacoma.
Kinney has yet to pitch for the Mariners this season due to a stress reaction on the left side of his rib cage. The 34-year-old made one rehab appearance with Triple-A Tacoma back on May 17, but then had to be shut down again. The Mariners are surely hoping that the additional rest will pay off.
