Yadier Molina has dropped his suspension appeal.
Molina will serve his one-game punishment on Wednesday after catching all 14 innings of Tuesday night's loss to the Diamondbacks. Tony Cruz is starting behind the plate. Yadi was given the suspension for making contact with two umpires on Sunday afternoon.

Major League Baseball has suspended Yadier Molina one game due to his actions during Sunday's game against the Giants.
Molina was ejected after spiking his helmet following a close play at first base, but it was his contact with umpire Mike Everitt that led to the suspension. Everitt said afterwards that he thought the contact was incidental, but MLB decided to suspend the catcher nonetheless. Molina has appealed and is in the lineup Monday.

Cardinals transferred LHP Jaime Garcia from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Sidelined
Shelby Miller left Monday's start against the Cubs after five innings with a right leg cramp.
Miller was examined by trainers after stretching out his calf on the mound with one out in the fifth. He stayed in and retired the next two hitters but was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the frame. The youngster should be fine for his next outing, which will come against the Rangers this weekend. He tossed five scoreless innings on two hits and two walks while striking out five before exiting.

Chris Carpenter
D.L.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said that Chris Carpenter felt some back stiffness during a long bullpen session Sunday.
It's not clear if Carpenter will have to scale back his throwing program, but he'll likely need a few more bullpen sessions before the Cardinals think about the possibility of a rehab assignment. While it once looked like the veteran right-hander could return in late June, sometime during the second half appears more realistic at this point.
Jun 17
7
John Gast
D.L.
John Gast has been diagnosed with a strained left lat.
The Cardinals were encouraged by the diagnosis. "The timetable is to be determined, but the good news is that it's not the shoulder or the elbow," general manager John Mozeliak said. "Hopefully, it's something that won't take too long. With a lat, it can be up to a month or a month and a half. We'll see." Michael Wacha is taking Gast's spot in the rotation.

Fernando Salas (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment this week with Triple-A Memphis.
Salas has been sidelined for nearly a month due to right shoulder irritation. The Cardinals will likely want to see how he responds to throwing on back-to-back days before bringing him back from the disabled list.

Cardinals transferred RHP Jason Motte from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move is being made in order to clear space on the 40-man roster for John Gast, who will be called up to start Tuesday. Motte is out for the year following Tommy John surgery.
