Yadier Molina turned in a great performance at the plate on Thursday, going 4-for-5 with a two-run homer in a loss to the Phillies.
He drove home three runs in the game, including an RBI single in the third. Molina's homer off of Joe Blanton in the fifth inning was his sixth of the season, and he's now hitting .314 and has driven home 23 runs. Molina continues to improve at the plate each year, and has cemented himself as one of the most consistent offensive catchers in the league.

Yadier Molina is not in Wednesday's lineup.
Tony Cruz will start at catcher as the Cardinals kick off a two-game series with the Giants on Wednesday night in San Francisco. Molina suffered a bruised hand last week in Arizona but is merely getting a day of rest.

Yadier Molina (hand) is back in the Cardinals' lineup Friday.
Molina was hit on the hand after being crossed up by a Mitchell Boggs pitch Tuesday and sat out Wednesday, but he's back in there after Thursday's day off. The four-time Gold Glover is batting .302/.353/.528 with four homers and four steals this season.

According to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com, Yadier Molina (hand) is "cautiously optimistic" that he’ll return to the lineup Friday.
Molina was hit on the hand after being crossed up by a Mitchell Boggs pitch Tuesday and is not playing Wednesday, but it sounds like he'll be back in there following Thursday's off day. Tony Cruz will be behind the plate Wednesday. Molina is off to a fine start, batting .302/.353/.528 with four homers and four steals.

D.L.
Lance Berkman will be sidelined 8-10 weeks after having surgery Friday to repair a meniscus tear.
He also had a cartilage tear shaved down, but the important thing is that his ACL didn't need to be repaired, which would have cost Berkman the rest of the season. Now, it appears that he could be ready sometime in August. It's great news for a Cardinals team that's dealt with their fair share of injuries this season. Matt Adams will continue to handle first base for now, but Allen Craig (hamstring) is due back in a week.

Cardinals placed INF Matt Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.
Carpenter suffered the injury on a first-inning double on Tuesday. The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but oblique injuries usually mean more than a minimum stay on the disabled list. Rookie Matt Adams should have the clear path to playing time at first base for now.

Jon Jay (shoulder) hit off a tee and did some soft toss before Friday's game.
It was his first workout since being placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder sprain earlier this month. The Cardinals are hopeful that he'll be ready to return when he's first eligible on May 30.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed he expects Allen Craig (hamstring) to come off the disabled list when first eligible.
Craig took batting practice with the team Thursday and is currently eligible to return June 1. He'll likely split time with Matt Adams at first base with Lance Berkman (knee) on the disabled list. It's not impossible that he could see time at second base, either.

Chris Carpenter is showing greater flexibility with his right shoulder and could be ready to begin a throwing program sometime in the next four weeks.
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said back on May 12 that Carp could start a throwing program in mid-June, which is now about three weeks away. Recent reports on the veteran righty have all been positive, but his comeback from nerve issues in his shoulder has been a slow process. He shouldn't be counted on before the All-Star break.

Kyle McClellan (elbow) won't throw for 6-8 weeks.
McClellan was told this week by Dr. James Andrews that he does not need a second Tommy John reconstructive elbow procedure, but that doesn't mean the right-hander is guaranteed to return this year. He's been diagnosed with a strained flexor pronator and a small tear of his UCL. It's going to be a long road of rehab.

Linebrink is finally showing some progress with his right shoulder capsulitis. If he doesn't have any more setbacks, he should be ready sometime in June.
