Rene Rivera said Monday that he's disappointed with his playing time with the Rays.
Rivera was expected to be the primary catcher for the Rays after coming over in the Wil Myers deal, but he lost his starting job after a miserable first half and now the Rays are giving opportunities to J.P. Arencibia and Luke Maile. "I feel like if you are going to give the opportunity to a guy, you should stick with him and help him get through slumps," said Rivera. "The first half I played a lot and I didn't do right as a hitter. But I feel like the second half would be better, and I didn't have the chance to do it." After a solid season with the Padres in 2014, Rivera is batting just .180 with five home runs and a .493 OPS this season. He's making $1.2 million in 2015 and will be arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter. Sep 22 - 9:01 AM
