Travis Wood yielded one run in six innings Friday in a loss to the Pirates.
Wood held the Pirates off the board until Russell Martin doubled in Jordy Mercer in his final inning of work. The southpaw gave up four hits and two walks while striking out six in the tough luck loss. Wood still owns a fine 2.65 ERA on the year, but with his fly ball tendencies, it's fair to expect his ERA to rise as he gets further into the summer. He'll get the Reds next week at home.

Travis Wood won't make his next start until Friday against the Pirates.
The Cubs are taking advantage of a couple off days to give Wood, who is on pace for a career-high 216 innings. ‘‘It works out,’’ said Cubs manager Dale Sveum, who added that Wood has no health issues. ‘‘You’re always going to try, when everything works out, to give somebody extra time off. It’s a good time — two months into the season — to give him a little breather.’’

Travis Wood surrendered five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings Saturday as the Cubs fell to the Reds.
Facing his former team, Wood yielded seven hits and three walks while throwing just 69 of his 115 pitches for strikes. It snapped a streak of nine straight quality starts for the left-hander. The regression could certainly continue in his next outing against the White Sox.

Travis Wood allowed three earned runs over seven innings Sunday as the Cubs fell to the Brewers.
Wood was only decent, which was a disappointment considering how well he has pitched this season and how poor the Mets' lineup is. Wood gave up five hits and two walks, watching his ERA rise from 2.03 to 2.24 and his WHIP from 0.92 to 0.93. He'll try for better next time out against the Reds.

Clevenger has been over his oblique strain for a while now, but he's on the 60-day DL and not eligible to return until mid-June. It's probably not a given that he'll be added to the big league roster once eligible.

DeJesus on Monday was diagnosed with a right shoulder strain, an injury he suffered when he slammed into the center field fence last Friday. The Cubs will use Ryan Sweeney as their primary center fielder while DeJesus is out.

It was Baker's first time throwing since he was shut down near the end of spring training with a right elbow strain. The Cubs will know a lot more about his timetable once he starts to build up his workload.

Kyuji Fujikawa underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday.
The reconstructive elbow procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews and deemed a success. Fujikawa has already been placed on the 60-day disabled list and is unlikely to be ready to pitch for the Cubs again until June of next season. He signed a two-year, $9.5 million free agent contract with Chicago this past winter.

Cubs placed RHP Rafael Dolis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 27, with a forearm strain.
No word on the severity of the injury. Dolis has yet to allow a run in five appearances with the Cubs this season. Blake Parker has been called up from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move.

Putnam left Tuesday's game with elbow soreness and is scheduled to undergo an MRI. The Cubs have called up Brooks Raley to replace him on the active roster.

Arodys Vizcaino has been ruled out for the season after recently undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow to address a calcium buildup.
Vizcaino wasn't progressed as hoped in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and now we know why. It's a shame that he won't appear for the Cubs in 2013, but the good news is that his ligaments are fine and he should be ready to go for spring training. Vizcaino will be shut down for six weeks before beginning his rehab.
