Evan Longoria smashed a game-winning two-run walkoff homer Saturday in the Rays' 8-7 win over the Padres.
After the first two hitters had been retired in the ninth, Ben Zobrist drew an all-important walk to set up Longoria's heroic blast. Third baseman has been a monster in the early part of the 2013 season, hitting .333/.400/.609 with nine homers and 26 RBI. Durability has always been -- and remains -- a concern, but there's no doubting that Longoria is an elite fantasy commodity when he's healthy.

Evan Longoria went 3-for-5 with two doubles and scored the winning run Thursday as the Rays beat the Blue Jays 5-4 in 10 innings.
Luke Scott worked a bases-loaded walk against Brad Lincoln to end the game. It was Longoria's second straight three-hit game, and he's 9-for-17 with two homers, four doubles and eight RBI in his last four games. If his start is any indication, this might be the year he becomes a serious MVP candidate.

Longoria also singled in a run and doubled on the night. The homer was his eighth of the year, giving him 22 RBI this season. The third baseman is showing what he is capable of when healthy. He's in the conversation for best fantasy third baseman in the game.

Evan Longoria went 2-for-5 and hit his third career grand slam Monday off the Blue Jays' Mark Buehrle.
It was Longoria's first slam since 2009, and it gave him his first game of three or more RBI of this season. Healthy so far, he's been a quality cleanup hitter in the midst of a mediocre Rays offense, delivering seven homers and driving in 19 runs in 31 games.

Rays placed LHP David Price on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left triceps muscle.
Price suffered the injury Wednesday night in his start against the Red Sox. An MRI taken shortly after his exit showed no major damage and the Rays are optimistic that he will only miss a few turns in the rotation, but nothing is certain quite yet. Jake Odorizzi and Chris Archer are the primary candidates to replace Price.

Gomes had been pitching well for Tampa, putting up a 1.03 WHIP and 16/2 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be out. Josh Lueke has replaced him on the roster.

Rays transferred RHP Jeff Niemann from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Jeff Beliveau. Niemann underwent shoulder surgery last week and is unlikely to return this season.

Rays purchased the contract of RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo, placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
Oviedo is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and will miss most, if not all, of the 2013 season. The Rays obviously have decided he's worth hanging onto in hopes he can contribute in 2014.
