Tim Lincecum was charged with the loss Friday after giving up six runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Marlins.
The struggles continue. Lincecum allowed just one run over the first five innings (a solo homer by Giancarlo Stanton) before unraveling in his final inning of work, the big blow of which was a three-run homer by Chris Coghlan. He has now allowed at least four runs in four straight starts and owns an ugly 6.41 ERA through his first 10 starts this year. He'll look for improvement next week against the Diamondbacks.

Tim Lincecum (thumb) feels fine following a home-plate collision during Sunday's game.
Lincecum suffered a hyperextended left thumb while covering home plate Sunday when A's outfielder Collin Cowgill knocked him over. He's wearing a wrap on the thumb, but is permitted to participate in all baseball activities. He should be fine for his next scheduled start Friday against the Marlins.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy decided to play it safe by pulling Tim Lincecum following a home-plate collision on Sunday.
Lincecum hurled a wild pitch in the fourth inning and scurried home to cover the plate. Collin Cowgill slid into home head-first and knocked over Lincecum, who was on his knees to catch a throw from Buster Posey. Lincecum's left hand and wrist were examined by a trainer and he was allowed to finish the inning. Having already thrown 90 pitches, Bochy pulled him prior to the fifth inning. Lincecum gave up four runs on five hits and three walks, pushing his ERA to 6.04. Though he appears to have escaped without an injury, we'd suggest benching him in mixed formats for the coming week.

Tim Lincecum could make it just four innings in Sunday's loss to the A's, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks.
Lincecum fanned five as his ERA climbed back above 6.00 to 6.04. That ugly number accompanies a 1.59 WHIP and 53/25 K/BB ratio compiled through 47 2/3 innings. Perhaps most shocking of all, Lincecum has turned in just one quality start in nine outings. His next chance to get on track will come Friday in Miami. You're probably best off leaving him benched for that one.

Freddy Sanchez has reported improvement since receiving an epidural injection in his lower back, but he's yet to be cleared to resume baseball-related activities.
It's pointless to attach a timetable to Sanchez at this point. He's still not able to make pain-free throws from second base due to his surgically-repaired shoulder, and his back might be an even bigger issue at this point. The Giants are seeking middle infield help from outside the organization.

Pablo Sandoval (hand) began swinging a fungo bat right-handed on Friday.
Sandoval is slowly increasing baseball activities after undergoing surgery earlier this month to repair a fractured left hamate bone. While he has begun swinging a bat, including tee work, Giants manager Bruce Bochy says he's still a couple of weeks away.

Eric Surkamp has experienced a setback in his recovery from a strained left elbow tendon.
When asked Thursday whether Surkamp might need surgery Giants manager Bruce Bochy replied simply: "Obviously there's concern." The 24-year-old left-hander has been out of commission since the end of spring training and might not return this season.

Guillermo Mota will appeal his suspension for a second positive test for a performance-enhancing drug.
However, as second-time offender, he must begin serving the suspension immediately. Mota tested positive for Clenbuterol, which is used mostly as a weight-loss supplement. The veteran righty has a 5.06 ERA and 9/4 K/BB ratio in 10 2/3 innings this season.

Dan Runzler
D.L.
Giants placed LHP Dan Runzler on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with a strained lat muscle.
Runzler aggravated an injury from last year earlier this month and was given a 4-6 week timetable to recover. It appears he might be a little ahead of that projection, but he might be optioned to Triple-A once he's healthy.

Brian Wilson
D.L.
Brian Wilson (elbow) considers himself ahead of schedule in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
Wilson, who underwent the procedure in late April, fully expects to be ready for the start of next season. "I’ll be closing unless someone throws a complete game," Wilson said. "Which would be sweet." It's good that Wilson is so upbeat, but he's obviously got a long way to go before we can identify a firm timetable on him.
