Franklin Morales (back, pectoral) is expected to make at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.
Morales threw three innings in his last outing and will stretch it out to four innings Saturday. The lefty would have been activated by now had the Red Sox wanted him as a reliever, but they're stretching him out as a starter in case he's needed in that role. "Well, he'll likely get to four innings [on Saturday], and if we don't change course with his role, we'd like to get him to a minimum of five before we'd look to do something back here," manager John Farrell said.

Franklin Morales (back, pectoral) will move up to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday to continue his rehab assignment.
Morales went two scoreless innings for Double-A Portland on Wednesday and displayed good velocity. He's scheduled for three innings on Monday and will need at least two additional outings before being an option for the Red Sox' rotation.

Franklin Morales (back, pectoral) long-tossed from 120-130 feet out on Thursday for the second straight day.
Morales is on the DL with a back injury but was shut down recently with a pectoral strain. He's symptom-free now, though, and will throw a bullpen session over the weekend. He'll need a couple side sessions before resuming his rehab assignment.

Franklin Morales has been diagnosed with a pectoral strain.
Morales underwent an MRI this weekend that revealed the injury. He will be shut down for the next few days and is not going to be ready in early May like the Red Sox had hoped. The 27-year-old has been on the disabled list since the end of spring training.

Red Sox placed 3B Will Middlebrooks on the 15-day disabled list with lower back spasms.
Middlebrooks suffered the injury Wednesday and aggravated it Thursday. The Red Sox initially said he was day-to-day, but evidently they've decided the best course of action was to sit him down for a couple weeks. Jose Iglesias has been promoted to fill his spot on the roster and will share time with Pedro Ciriaco at the hot corner.

Red Sox placed OF Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with a left hamstring strain.
Victorino ran sprints prior to Thursday's game, but evidently he still hasn't made enough progress. Given that he's also had a back issue lately, it's probably best to let him rest for a couple weeks. Daniel Nava will handle right field while Victorino is out.

Joel Hanrahan was upbeat Friday after he required Tommy John surgery in addition to flexor tendon surgery on Thursday.
Hanrahan will be in a cast for ten days, but will start the rehab process shortly thereafter. Either way, he's looking at a 12-to-14 month timetable for his return. Hanrahan, who is a free agent after the season, is a long way away from having any tangible fantasy value.
