Huston Street earned his 10th save of the year Saturday as the Padres beat the Nationals 2-1.
He struck out a batter but walked two in the scoreless frame. Street was one day removed from being the losing pitcher after giving up a game-winning home run to Chad Tracy. Street is 0-3, going 10-for-11 in save conversions and posting a 4.42 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.
May 19 - 1:43 AM
Huston Street earned his ninth save of the year Tuesday as the Padres beat the Orioles 3-2.
The Padres were trailing 2-1 heading into the top of the ninth inning but managed a rare two-run rally against Orioles closer Jim Johnson. Street then shut the O's down in the bottom of the ninth. He owns a weak 4.60 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 15 2/3 innings this season but still carries very good job security.
May 14 - 10:15 PM
Huston Street blew his first save of the 2013 season on Saturday night, surrendering a two-out, two-run homer to Rays third baseman Evan Longoria.
It's a devastating loss for the Padres, who clawed back from a 6-2 deficit to take a 7-6 lead into the ninth. Street retired the first two hitters he faced before walking Ben Zobrist to set up Longoria's dramatics. With the loss, Street falls to 0-2 on the season with a 4.91 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. But he's still the closer in San Diego.
May 11 - 9:44 PM
Huston Street recorded his seventh save despite giving up a three-run homer in the ninth inning Friday against the Diamondbacks.
The Padres wanted to get through the ninth with Brad Brach in a 7-3 game tonight, but he was pulled after giving up a hit and a walk to the first two hitters he faced. Street came in and got two outs, but then gave up a homer to Gerardo Parra, making it a 7-6 game. He retired Martin Prado afterwards to record the save. The homer was the fourth he's allowed in 12 innings this season. Last year, he allowed a total of two in 39 innings.

Yasmani Grandal
Suspended
Yasmani Grandal will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Tucson.
Grandal is still serving his 50-game suspension for a positive PED test, but he is allowed to begin a 10-game minor league assignment. The 24-year-old backstop is eligible to join the Padres on May 28 and may split playing time with Nick Hundley upon his return.

Logan Forsythe (foot) took batting practice on the field Thursday.
It's the first time he's done so since plantar fasciitis in his right foot sent him to the DL prior to the season. Forsythe also took ground balls before Thursday's game. "He's on the field doing baseball activities stuff, so he's on the way back," Padres manager Bud Black said. "He's on the mend." The team hasn't revealed a timetable for Forsythe, but he should be ready sometime next month if all goes well.

Cameron Maybin (wrist) hit in the batting cages on Thursday.
It's the first time he's done so since he landed on the disabled list last month with a right wrist impingement. The Padres aren't sure what the next step is for the outfielder, but Maybin said the session went "way, way better" than he expected. "I'm excited," Maybin said. "It's tough watching, but it's also been great watching how great the team has been playing. I'm eager to get back in the mix."

Clayton Richard (illness) will make a second rehab start with Triple-A Tucson.
Richard struck out eight over six innings of one-run ball Thursday for Tucson, but the Padres want him to have another tune-up. "He feels good about where he is right now, how his arm feels and how he feels physically in general, from the whole bad virus he contracted," manager Bud Black said. Assuming Richard feels fine in his next outing, he could rejoin the rotation as soon as next weekend.

Cory Luebke

Cory Luebke (elbow) has had his throwing program stopped for the second time this year in his attempt to return from Tommy John surgery.
Luebke was shut down in early March before resuming sessions of catch on April 1, and he had progressed to throwing off a mound before this latest setback. Obviously none of this bodes well for his mission to return to live major league games by the All-Star break.
May 18

Joe Wieland
D.L.
Joe Wieland (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday at the Padres' spring training complex.
Wieland, currently on the 60-day disabled list, is nine months removed from Tommy John surgery and will continued to be moved along slowly. If he can avoid setbacks, Wieland should be game-ready sometime after the All-Star break.

Casey Kelly
D.L.
Padres placed LHP Casey Kelly on the 60-day disabled list with a left elbow injury.
Kelly will undergo Tommy John surgery during the first week of April. Obviously, he won't be making any contribution this season.
