Devin Mesoraco blasted a grand slam home run, providing all of the offense the Reds would need to down the Braves 6-3 on Thursday.
It was his lone hit in four at-bats on the night, but was the crushing blow to Randall Delgado and the Braves. He’s only hitting .213 on the season with a pair of homers and 7 RBI now, while he’s been sharing time behind the plate with Ryan Hanigan. He still possesses tremendous offensive potential, and perhaps this big night is just the boost he needs to get going. He's a difficult play currently in all but deeper two-catcher leagues.

Devin Mesoraco connected on his first home run of the season in a losing effort against the Astros on Friday.
He finished the night 1-for-4 with the solo blast off of Fernando Abad in the ninth inning. After struggling out of the gate, Mesoraco has outplayed Ryan Hanigan as of late and earned himself more time in the lineup recently. He's now hitting .276 on the year and is one of the brightest young catching prospects in the game today.

Devin Mesoraco will start against the Nationals Saturday.
He'll catch for Homer Bailey and bat eighth. A popular sleeper candidate, Mesoraco is a recommended handcuff for Ryan Hanignan owners.

Devin Mesoraco doubled and scored in Friday's win over the Indians.
However, he also struck out twice, and is hitting just .222 through his first 36 Cactus League at-bats. Justifiably a popular sleeper candidate at catcher coming off a huge minor-league campaign in 2011, Mesoraco should nevertheless be handcuffed in all mixed leagues.

Scott Rolen (shoulder) isn't sure when he'll resume swinging a bat.
Rolen went on the disabled list on May 12 with a sore left shoulder and recently received a cortisone shot. He has felt some improvement over the past couple of days, but he is currently shut down from all baseball activities and has no plans to rush back. "Ideally, this will be the last time (I’m on the DL)," said Rolen. "If it takes a few extra days, we’ll do that." Todd Frazier will continue to fill in at the hot corner and makes for a decent play in deeper mixed leagues.

Nick Masset (shoulder) threw from a distance of 60 feet again on Friday.
"He was much better than yesterday," said Reds trainer Paul Lessard. "I thought he would be. He was so mechanical the first day." While it's a good sign that Masset is throwing again, he'll need to build arm strength before being cleared to get back on the mound.

Bill Bray underwent an MRI on his back which showed no structural damage.
Bray was placed on the disabled list last month with a groin injury, but his back is the bigger issue now. He was put on anti-inflammatory medication and the hope is that he'll be ready to resume throwing Monday.

Ryan Madson's rehab from Tommy John surgery began Tuesday.
"It’s Day One of rehab," Madson said. "It’s the first day I’ve been out of my brace. It feels good." Madson, of course, will miss all of the 2012 season, but he's hoping to be ready for the start of 2013. He'll be a free agent this winter
