Chris Getz hasn't collected a hit since May 4.
He hasn't played since May 13 and owns an ugly .170 OPS in 18 plate appearances this month. Getz has never been much of a hitter, but his .193/.221/.301 slash line in 2013 resets the bar to a new low. Kansas City is making due with Elliot Johnson and Miguel Tejada at second, which tells you all you need to know about their opinion of Getz. With additional help on the way from the farm, Getz may have just squandered his last opportunity to seize a starting major league gig.

Chris Getz went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before being removed for a pinch-hitter Monday against the Indians.
Getz's average is down to .227, and he's walked just twice in 66 at-bats this season, giving him a dreadful .250 OBP. He's also yet to attempt a steal, which is very disappointing for anyone unfortunate enough to have him on their fantasy teams. Maybe the Royals will consider giving Miguel Tejada a look at second base if this keeps up.

Chris Getz hit a solo home run in the Royals' 3-2 win over the Reds on Friday.
Some rare power from Getz, who hasn't homered in a regular season game since 2009. Johnny Giavotella is off to a nice start this spring, but Getz isn't giving up the second base job without a fight. Unfortunately, speed is the only thing he brings to the table from a fantasy perspective.

Royals manager Ned Yost said the second base job is a two-man battle between Chris Getz and Johnny Giavotella.
It's not breaking news, but confirms what we already knew was going to be the case. Getz remains the favorite to open the season as the Royals' starting second baseman. Giavotella is younger with more upside and could push for a platoon role in spring training.

Jarrod Dyson (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.
The Royals are targeting 25-30 at-bats for the outfielder before activating him, so he should be in line for a return early next week. Dyson has been out since mid-May with a right ankle sprain.

Danny Duffy (elbow) allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks over just 2 1/3 innings in his first rehab start for Triple-A Omaha on Monday.
Duffy posted a 4.22 ERA and struck out 15 over 10 2/3 innings in his first three rehab starts, but he was obviously off in this one. The left-hander is on track to return in late June but will need to improve his results before the Royals add him to the big league rotation.

Felipe Paulino (elbow) has been recalled from his rehab assignment due to lower back stiffness.
Paulino was scratched from a scheduled rehab start on Sunday due to the injury. It's considered minor, though, so he should be pitching again soon. "I don't think it's anything major. Very minor," Royals manager Ned Yost said.
