Astros manager Bo Porter indicated Friday that Brett Wallace is still a big part of the team's future.
Wallace batted just .042/.115/.042 with 17 strikeouts in his first 24 at-bats before being demoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier this week. Even if he gets back on track by hammering PCL pitching, it's very unlikely that he'll becomes a useful fantasy contributor in 2013.

Astros optioned 1B Brett Wallace to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Wallace was batting just .042 with a .157 OPS through 26 plate appearances this season for the Astros. The former 13th overall pick will turn 27 years old in August and can safely be called a bust at this point.

Brett Wallace went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's loss to the Athletics.
Wallace is now 1-for-14 with 11 strikeouts over the first four games of the season. The Astros want to give him a chance as a regular, but since Carlos Pena and Chris Carter loom as alternatives at first base, he's hardly a given to stick.

Brett Wallace is starting at third base Tuesday against the Rangers.
The Astros changed handful of things from their Opening Day lineup. Matt Dominguez is on the bench, Marwin Gonzalez is at shortstop instead of Ronny Cedeno, Carlos Pena is at first base, Carlos Corporan is at catcher and Jason Castro is in the DH slot. It's an odd decision that they're going with inferior defense on the left side of the infield given that sinkerballer Lucas Harrell is on the mound.

Fields is scheduled to throw two innings. The Rule 5 pick appeared in two games with the Astros in early April prior to being placed on the disabled list. If all goes well, he could return to the big club sometime this month.

Paul Clemens left Monday's appearance with a right pinkie injury.
Clemens was struck by a comebacker and appeared to dislocate the finger, but the Astros' trainer popped it back in place and he stayed in to face one more batter. The club reconsidered after that, though, and decided to remove him. Clemens saved the bullpen with 5 1/3 scoreless relief frames after Erik Bedard lasted only 1/3 of an inning.

Alex White will undergo Tommy John surgery.
White showed diminished velocity this spring and was diagnosed with a strained pitching elbow, but the injury turned out to be worse than that. The young right-hander will obviously miss all of 2013 and might not be ready for the start of 2014.
