Brett Lawrie went 3-for-5 with two doubles as the Blue Jays beat the Giants on Tuesday.
Lawrie has struggled out of the gate, but he enjoyed a mini-breakout Tuesday. He actually hit more doubles in the game, two, than he had in his first 25 games this season. It's hard to know whether Tuesday's performance will spur him to bigger and better things, but we still have faith he'll break out of this slump sooner than later.

Brett Lawrie is batting just .146 over his last 41 at-bats.
The Blue Jays had been trying Lawrie in the leadoff spot, but, after hitting .135 (5-for-37) when batting first, he was moved down to the No. 6 spot for Thursday's game. Lawrie did have an RBI single in his first at-bat Thursday but was then retired in his next three plate appearances. "We're just trying to simplify things," hitting coach Chad Mottola said. "The way he works, he's fast-twitch and he tends to try to do more when he starts struggling and thinks that's going to help. So we're just trying to calm him down, teach him ways to calm him down."

Lawrie has played every inning of every game since returning from the disabled list on April 16, so the Jays are giving him a day of rest. Manager John Gibbons also noted that the third baseman is "a little banged up," but it doesn't sound like anything to worry about. Mark DeRosa is handling the hot corner Sunday.

Lawrie has spent most of the season in the seventh or eighth spots, but he has five hits -- including two homers -- over his last three games, so the Blue Jays are moving him up. It gives Lawrie a little bump in fantasy value.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said it "would not surprise me" if Jose Reyes returned in late June.
Reyes had the walking boot on his left foot removed Tuesday and is evidently recovering a bit ahead of schedule, as he had been expected to sit out until around the All-Star break. The shortstop is still in the early stages of his recovery, though. A lot can happen over the next six weeks.

Johnson has been on the DL since April 29, but he hasn't had any issues during his throwing program. He'll likely need 2-3 games before he's cleared to rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation. Johnson is on track for a return in the early part of June.

Happ will avoid throwing for a week before beginning to toss on flat ground. The Blue Jays are optimistic that the left-hander will be sidelined closer to four weeks. All things considered, that's about as good as Happ and the club could have hoped for.

Dustin McGowan (shoulder) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo.
McGowan allowed one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings with High-A Dunedin and notched four strikeouts. The Blue Jays can't count on him given his lengthy injury history, but he could be an option to join the bullpen later this month if all goes well.

Drew Hutchison (elbow) is on track to face live hitters in about three weeks.
Hutchison is currently making his way back from Tommy John surgery last August. While the 22-year-old right-hander is unlikely to see any game action until late in the season, he feels good about his progress. "You always want to do more but you know you have to follow the process and do what they tell you to do because that’s what’s in your best interest," said Hutchison. "I feel good, which is good, but you also realize that it’s the process and you need to follow the process."

Drabek threw a bullpen session Monday in extended spring training. He's coming back from the second Tommy John surgery of his career, so the Blue Jays figure to take things slow, but he could be looking at a return around midseason if all goes well.
