Scooter Gennett had the best offensive day of his young major league career in Friday's loss to the Reds, going 3-for-5 with a double and a solo home run.
His solo shot, the first of his major league career, came courtesy of Bronson Arroyo in the third inning. Gennett is hitting .261/.320/.522 with four RBI in 23 at-bats since his recent promotion and could soon push the struggling Rickie Weeks for more playing time.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Scooter Gennett and Rickie Weeks will form a "loose" platoon at second base.
Gennett should be in line for more playing time since he's the left-handed hitter, though Weeks will still see starts against right-handed pitching. The 23-year-old was batting .297/.342/.376 in 50 games at the Triple-A level and is worth a shot in deeper mixed formats. "We saw [Gennett] in Spring Training and we knew early on that he was a good hitter," Roenicke said. "Everybody thought that he would hit in the big leagues."

Brewers recalled 2B Scooter Gennett from Triple-A Nashville.
Gennett, 23, was batting .297/.342/.376 in 50 games at the Triple-A level and is considered one of the Brewers' top position prospects. He could see semi-regular starts at second base with Rickie Weeks struggling.

Brewers purchased the contract of 2B Scooter Gennett from Double-A Huntsville.
An easy call, as Gennett is one of the Brewers' top position prospects. The 22-year-old batted .293/.330/.385 with five home runs, 44 RBI, 11 stolen bases and a .714 OPS in 133 games this season at the Double-A level.

Brewers GM Doug Melvin said Thursday that Corey Hart (knee) might not be back until after the All-Star break.
Hart doesn't have much confidence yet in the strength of his surgically-repaired right knee and has yet to run the bases at full speed. He's been sorely missed this season, as Brewers first basemen have combined for a .183/.222/.280 batting line and just four home runs.

Brewers placed 1B Mat Gamel on the 60-day disabled list with a knee injury.
It's a procedural move, as Gamel required surgery in early March to repair a torn right ACL and is expected to miss the entire 2013 season. The Brewers now have an opening on their 40-man roster.

It's a move made in order to clear 40-man roster space for Francisco Rodriguez. Green is out for the season after undergoing hip surgery last month.

Ryan Braun (thumb) will be shut down from baseball activities for at least the next week.
Braun is dealing with a nerve issue in his right hand, and the Brewers are hopeful that the symptoms will subside with some extra rest. If they don't, he'll just have to play through the ailment. "If it gets better, he'll start swinging again and then take BP," manager Ron Roenicke said. "Maybe when he comes off, it will go away. If not, he'll have to play and fight through it." Logan Schafer will see the bulk of the time in left field while Braun is out.

That's assuming he's cleared by team physician William Raasch Wednesday following a successful 45-pitch bullpen session Tuesday. Estrada is expected to need just one rehab outing, putting him in line to rejoin the rotation next week.

Burgos was originally scheduled to make the start on Monday but felt renewed soreness in his right shoulder. He's been out since May 22 with a shoulder impingement but is on track to return in a couple of weeks.

Chris Narveson (finger) could make another rehab start after being knocked around for five runs -- three earned -- while walking five over 4 2/3 frames his last time out.
The left-hander has yet to pitch five innings during any of his four rehab outings and has allowed 14 runs -- 12 earned -- over his last 11 innings. The Brewers need a starter for the upcoming week, but it appears that it will not be Narveson.
