Rockies optioned LHP Drew Pomeranz to Triple-A Colorado Springs; reassigned RHPs Bobby Cassevah and Jeff Manship and INF Matt McBride to minor league camp.
Pomeranz will work on his offspeed stuff in the Colorado Springs rotation following the addition of Jon Garland. He should be part of the Rockies' starting five at some point this season.

Drew Pomeranz is expected to open the season in the Triple-A rotation following the Rockies' addition of Jon Garland.
Pomeranz has shown good velocity this spring, but he's put up a 5.50 ERA and the Rockies want to see him work on some things in the minors. The odds are pretty good that he'll wind up spending a good chunk of the year in the major league rotation.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, Drew Pomeranz is the leading candidate to secure the fifth spot in the Rockies' Opening Day rotation.
The young lefty has struggled this spring, posting a 5.50 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 13/7 K/BB ratio over his 18 innings, but he remains the best option that the team has. His fantasy value is extremely limited while pitching half of his games at Coors Field, but he could be a useful source of strikeouts in NL-only formats when skimmed for his road starts.

Drew Pomeranz yielded three runs on 10 hits and two walks over five innings Thursday against the Giants.
Pomeranz did strike out four, but he obviously allowed way too many baserunners. The left-hander has shown good velocity this spring, but he's posted an uninspiring 5.50 ERA and 1.94 WHIP over 18 Cactus League innings.

Michael Cuddyer (neck) will play two games in extended spring training this week and is expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday.
Cuddyer will fly to Arizona on Monday night and play in games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready to go as soon as he's eligible on Friday. The 34-year-old has been sidelined since May 8 with a bulging disc in his neck.

It will be the first time he's thrown from the bump since landing on the disabled list. Francis' groin isn't fully healed, but he shouldn't be out too much longer as long as he continues to progress. Whether he'll have a rotation spot once healthy remains to be seen.

The move cleared a 40-man roster spot for new infielder Reid Brignac. Cabrera can be activated in late May.

Rafael Betancourt (groin) will not require a trip to the disabled list.
Betancourt left Tuesday's game with a tight right groin, but it's merely some scar tissue from a previous injury. He was given anti-inflammatory medication and could be back in there as soon as Friday. Rex Brothers and Wilton Lopez could be in the mix for save chances until he's ready to go, but it doesn't sound like he'll have a lengthy absence.
