The 22-year-old left-hander posted a disappointing 6.37 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 33/16 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings at Double-A San Antonio in 2012, but was limited to just eight starts due to elbow trouble.

Oramas was limited to just eight starts this season due to a bone spur in his pitching elbow. The Padres have high hopes for the 22-year-old.

Oramas, 21, posted a 3.49 ERA and 106/29 K/BB ratio over 108 1/3 innings this season between Double- and Triple-A last season. The diminutive lefty holds some intrigue but isn't ready for the majors.

Yonder Alonso (hand) said Friday that he hopes to return from the disabled list in three weeks.
Alonso suffered a fractured hand last Friday and Padres general manager Josh Byrnes believes he could miss a month. While it's nice to see the optimism and strong desire to return, the Padres will likely play things safe. Before the injury, the 26-year-old was off to a terrific start, hitting .284/.335/.416 with six homers and 29 RBI through his first 54 games. Kyle Blanks and Jesus Guzman are likely to see the majority of the starts at first base until Alonso returns.

Padres placed 2B Jedd Gyorko on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin.
Gyorko was injured during Sunday's game against the Rockies. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Logan Forsythe has been activated from the disabled list and should see plenty of time at second base in Gyorko's place, though Alexi Amarista also figures to be in the mix.

Everth Cabrera (hamstring) is not in the Padres' lineup Monday.
Cabrera tweaked his left hamstring during Sunday's game. The shortstop thinks he could play through the ailment, but the Padres will give him a few days off as a precaution. "I feel like I can play but I don't want to play at 50 percent," Cabrera said. Pedro Ciriaco is starting at shortstop Monday.

It's the third straight start he's missed due to a nagging left shoulder injury. The Padres are calling Quentin day-to-day for now, but they haven't ruled out the disabled list as a possibility. Kyle Blanks is starting in left field Monday.

Padres placed OF Cameron Maybin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 10, with a left knee strain.
Maybin has a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee and is expected to miss 6-10 weeks. The Padres have called up Jaff Decker to replace him on the active roster while Chris Denorfia and Will Venable should pick up the slack in center field.

Padres manager Bud Black said there's a "definite possibility" that Cory Luebke (elbow) won't pitch in 2013.
Luebke is currently working his way back from Tommy John surgery and has been shut down since last month with renewed soreness in his elbow. He will try to resume a throwing program in 2-3 weeks. While the Padres aren't counting on anything from Luebke right now, they haven't completely ruled out a mid-August return.

It will be the first time he's done so since undergoing Tommy John surgery. Wieland is hoping to begin a rehab assignment by late June, with a return to the big league club coming after the All-Star break.
