Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow indicated Tuesday that Jon Singleton could begin the 2015 season in the minors.
The club is viewing Evan Gattis as more of a first baseman/designated hitter type, and Chris Carter isn't going to be benched after slugging 37 homers last season. That means Singleton, who hit 13 homers but batted just .168/.285/.335 overall across 95 games in 2014, could be in line for some more minor league seasoning. "Guys that have options are going to have to prove to us that they belong in the big leagues. I don’t think it’s just Singleton. Like I said, we’ve got multiple options at every position on the diamond now. So, you know, players may not be playing their preferred position — that puzzle will come together in spring training. We’re only guessing to try to figure it out right now." Jan 21 - 12:19 AM
