Jedd Gyorko hit a two run homer in Sunday's win against the Diamondbacks.
The Padres got back-to-back home runs from Gyorko and Will Venable in the sixth inning, but weren't able to do much else offensively. It was the second home run of the season for Gyorko, who is batting .296 with eight doubles over his last seven games. He should be in for another big week with an upcoming series against the Marlins.

Jedd Gyorko is hitting just .247/.316/.318 through his first 95 plate appearances, but went 4-for-12 with two doubles in the Padres' weekend sweep of the Giants.
He's hit safely in six straight games, raising his slash from .210/.296/.258 to .247/.316/.318 in the process. That's still not scintillating, of course, but the Padres have given no indication Gyorko will be removed from the starting lineup. Still just getting his feet wet at the big-league level, patience remains the best course of action with one of the National League's top prospects.

Jedd Gyorko had an RBI double in a win over the Mets on Thursday.
It was the first RBI of his major league career. Gyorko will finish the series 3-for-12 (.250) with two doubles and two runs scored. The 24-year-old has a lot of leash due to the injuries to injuries to Chase Headley (thumb) and Logan Forsythe (foot), so don't be afraid to give him a shot in mixed leagues. He should qualify at second base soon in all formats.

Padres purchased the contract of INF Jedd Gyorko from Triple-A Tucson.
Gyorko will alternate between second and third base early in the season before settling in at second once Chase Headley returns. He has plenty of upside in fantasy leagues.

Suspended
Yasmani Grandal will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Tucson.
Grandal is still serving his 50-game suspension for a positive PED test, but he is allowed to begin a 10-game minor league assignment. The 24-year-old backstop is eligible to join the Padres on May 28 and may split playing time with Nick Hundley upon his return.

Logan Forsythe (foot) took batting practice on the field Thursday.
It's the first time he's done so since plantar fasciitis in his right foot sent him to the DL prior to the season. Forsythe also took ground balls before Thursday's game. "He's on the field doing baseball activities stuff, so he's on the way back," Padres manager Bud Black said. "He's on the mend." The team hasn't revealed a timetable for Forsythe, but he should be ready sometime next month if all goes well.

Padres manager Bud Black said he'd like Cameron Maybin (wrist) to get around 30 rehab at-bats.
Maybin hit in the cage and on the field before Monday's game and will do the same thing on Tuesday and Wednesday. Assuming it goes well, he'll begin a rehab assignment on Friday. Maybin could return before the end of the month.

Clayton Richard (illness) will make a second rehab start with Triple-A Tucson.
Richard struck out eight over six innings of one-run ball Thursday for Tucson, but the Padres want him to have another tune-up. "He feels good about where he is right now, how his arm feels and how he feels physically in general, from the whole bad virus he contracted," manager Bud Black said. Assuming Richard feels fine in his next outing, he could rejoin the rotation as soon as next weekend.

Cory Luebke (elbow) has had his throwing program stopped for the second time this year in his attempt to return from Tommy John surgery.
Luebke was shut down in early March before resuming sessions of catch on April 1, and he had progressed to throwing off a mound before this latest setback. Obviously none of this bodes well for his mission to return to live major league games by the All-Star break.

Joe Wieland (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday at the Padres' spring training complex.
Wieland, currently on the 60-day disabled list, is nine months removed from Tommy John surgery and will continued to be moved along slowly. If he can avoid setbacks, Wieland should be game-ready sometime after the All-Star break.

Kelly will undergo Tommy John surgery during the first week of April. Obviously, he won't be making any contribution this season.
