Jimmy Paredes went 3-for-3 with his first home run of the season but the Astros lost to the Royals on Tuesday.
Paredes' homer, a three-run shot, gave the Astros a lead in the fourth inning. He also added two singles on the night to bring his line to .268/.311/.439 through 14 games since being recalled. With the release of Rick Ankiel, it seems Paredes will continue to see plenty of playing time in the Houston outfield.

Astros manager Bo Porter said J.D. Martinez, Robbie Grossman and Jimmy Paredes will receive "the bulk of the playing time" in the outfield.
Trevor Crowe and Brandon Barnes will still see the occasional start, and Justin Maxwell should get the center field job back when he's healthy. For now, though, the aforementioned three will be in the lineup most days. "They're going to get the bulk of the playing time," Porter said on Monday, "so that I, as a manager, can make a definitive decision as a manager to answer the question: Can this guy or can that guy play every day at the Major League level?" Paredes is the most intriguing of the trio from a fantasy perspective, as he offers speed a little bit of pop.

Astros recalled OF/INF Jimmy Paredes from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Paredes has played both third base and right field at Oklahoma City this season and sported a robust .376/.444/.596 batting line with three homers and seven steals. With his speed, he could have some deep league value if he gets the playing time.

Jimmy Paredes will eventually move to center field once he learns to play right field.
"We're hoping right now at one of the corner spots he should be OK," Astros interim manager Tony DeFrancesco said. "The transition from infield to outfield is not as easy as some people think. Routes and angles are all different for him. We feel eventually he'll transition into a top center fielder." Paredes was batting .318 with 13 homers, 59 RBI and 37 stolen bases at Triple-A Oklahoma City before his recall Monday. He should have some NL-only value down the stretch.

Matt Dominguez (quad) is expected to return to the Astros' starting lineup on Friday evening.
Dominguez sat out Wednesday and will also use Thursday's scheduled team off day to rest his tight left quad. "I’m starting to figure certain things out at the plate, and I like to play," said the third baseman, "but it’s better to take the two days off now than risking weeks when it’s something that can be treated pretty easily."

Justin Maxwell (hand) hit 15 balls off a tee and took 30 soft-tosses on Monday.
Maxwell is no longer wearing a brace on his fractured left hand and is progressing steadily. He's scheduled to have a routine X-ray on Tuesday to see how the healing is coming along. The outfielder should make a late May/early June return if all goes well.

Bud Norris (back) expects to make his next scheduled start.
Norris has left each of his last two starts with lower back spasms, but both times his removal was considered precautionary. He received massage treatment Wednesday and thinks "the prevention process of taking care of it now and getting me out of the game will help." Assuming he doesn't have a setback over the next few days, the righty will likely face the Rockies on Monday.

Josh Fields (forearm) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with High-A Quad Cities.
Fields is scheduled to throw two innings. The Rule 5 pick appeared in two games with the Astros in early April prior to being placed on the disabled list. If all goes well, he could return to the big club sometime this month.

Paul Clemens left Monday's appearance with a right pinkie injury.
Clemens was struck by a comebacker and appeared to dislocate the finger, but the Astros' trainer popped it back in place and he stayed in to face one more batter. The club reconsidered after that, though, and decided to remove him. Clemens saved the bullpen with 5 1/3 scoreless relief frames after Erik Bedard lasted only 1/3 of an inning.

Alex White will undergo Tommy John surgery.
White showed diminished velocity this spring and was diagnosed with a strained pitching elbow, but the injury turned out to be worse than that. The young right-hander will obviously miss all of 2013 and might not be ready for the start of 2014.
