Rangers manager Ron Washington said Chris McGuiness will see the majority of the playing time at first base while Mitch Moreland (hamstring) is on the disabled list.
"McGuiness is going to get the majority of the time, the same time Moreland was getting," Washington said. "I'll pick and choose with him on lefties." The left-handed swinging McGuiness will start against righties, while Jeff Baker and possibly Lance Berkman figure to spell him against southpaws. The 25-year-old is worth adding in AL-only leagues.

Rangers purchased the contract of 1B Chris McGuiness from Triple-A Round Rock.
McGuiness was taken by the Indians in last December's Rule 5 Draft but failed to crack Cleveland's Opening Day roster this spring and was returned to the Rangers in late March. The 25-year-old should see semi-regular playing time at first base while Mitch Moreland (hamstring) is sidelined. McGuiness was batting .275/.382/.477 with six homers and 34 RBI in 55 games at the Triple-A level.

Rule 5 Draft pick Chris McGuiness has been returned to the Rangers.
The Indians will keep $25,000 -- or half of the $50,000 it took to draft him in December. McGuiness, 24, batted .268/.366/.474 with 23 homers at the Double-A level last season. The Rangers are surely glad to have him back.

MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports that Rule 5 pick Chris McGuiness will not make the Indians' Opening Day roster, but the club would like to work out a trade with the Rangers in order to keep him.
McGuiness is batting just .195/.267/.244 for the Tribe this spring, but obviously they see something they like in the 24-year-old. He batted .268/.366/.474 with 23 homers at the Double-A level last season.

Moreland was cleared after running the bases on Sunday with no issues. He'll play at Frisco for three games before being activated on Friday, the first day he's eligible. The first baseman has been out since June 6 with a right hamstring strain.

Matt Harrison played catch Monday for the first time since his back surgery.
Good news, but Harrison will be restricted to flat ground work for another 4-6 weeks before getting back on a mound. Even then, he'll likely need another month to build up his workload. The southpaw isn't expected to rejoin the Rangers' rotation until September, though he could provide a nice boost down the stretch.

Alexi Ogando (shoulder) remains limited to flat ground throwing.
Ogando still has some soreness in his right shoulder, and the Rangers aren't going to let him thrown from the mound until he's completely pain-free. He'll need to go out on a rehab assignment after throwing off a mound at least a couple times, so the right-hander isn't close to returning.

It's the first time he's done so since he was shut down after feeling soreness in the back of his right elbow. Lewis will likely need several more mound sessions before facing hitters, so he's not close to resuming his rehab assignment.

Soria has made it through multiple batting practice sessions without incident and appears ready to progress to game action. Pitchers are permitted to have a 30-day rehab window and Soria figures to need most of it as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. He could provide a nice boost for the Rangers' bullpen during the second half.
