Christian Yelich went 2-for-3 and hit his fifth homer Monday versus the Twins.
And this one was crushed off Twins reliever Tim Wood. The pitchforks are definitely coming out when the Marlins opt to send Yelich down later this month. He's been outstanding in hitting .385 with nine extra-base hits in 42 at-bats.
Mar 18 - 4:30 PM
Christian Yelich homered in his lone plate appearance Saturday as the Marlins defeated the Mets 4-2.
That's four homers in 38 at-bats for Yelich. He also has three doubles, a triple and six walks. He's both scored and driven in 11 runs. It still makes a lot of sense for the Marlins to send him down to begin the season, but he's doing everything he can to turn it into a tough call.
Mar 16 - 4:21 PM
Christian Yelich hit a walkoff homer off Chris Carpenter in the bottom of the ninth as the Marlins beat the Red Sox 8-7 on Monday.
Yelich continues to excel, supplying his third homer of the spring. He's hitting .375 with 11 RBI and a 5/6 K/BB ratio in 32 at-bats. The Marlins remain highly unlikely to open the season with Yelich on the 25-man roster, but if he keeps this up in Triple-A, he might be their center fielder before long.
Mar 11 - 4:26 PM
Christian Yelich went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two walks against the Nationals on Saturday.
The Marlins would be crazy to carry Yelich on Opening Day and risk him burning a year of free agency in a season in which they won't contend, but the 21-year-old is doing his best to make it a tough decision. He's hitting .400/.516/.720 with a homer, seven RBI and six walks in 25 at-bats.

Logan Morrison
D.L.
Logan Morrison (knee) went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles Monday in his first rehab game with High-A Jupiter.
Morrison, who is coming back from knee surgery, served as the designated hitter. The 25-year-old is permitted to spend 20 days on his rehab assignment and will likely need most of it to shake the rust and get comfortable. However, assuming all goes well, he should join the Marlins' lineup in early June.
May 21
2
Casey Kotchman
D.L.
Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Casey Kotchman (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment "in the next few days."
Kotchman is finally feeling improvement with his strained left hamstring. He was moved to the 60-day DL last week, though, so he won't be eligible to return until June.
May 14
3
Joe Mahoney
D.L.
Joe Mahoney (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter this week.
Mahoney has been out since late April with a right hamstring strain. With Logan Morrison (knee) and Casey Kotchman (hamstring) also due back soon, Mahoney might be sent to Triple-A once healthy.

Donovan Solano
D.L.
Donovan Solano's strained left intercostal muscle remains sore.
There's no timetable for when he'll resume baseball activities, let alone when he'll return from the DL. Derek Dietrich will continue to serve as the primary second baseman for the Marlins.
May 14
2
Chris Valaika
D.L.
Chris Valaika underwent successful surgery on Friday, having two pins inserted into his wrist.
Valaika is expected to require 4-6 weeks of healing time before he's able to return to the Marlins. He had been virtually ineffective in his 22 games before the injury, hitting .219/.261/.344 with one homer and nine RBI.

Marlins transferred OF Austin Kearns to the restricted list.
Kearns was already on the bereavement list, so it's just a procedural move to give him more time. Kyle Skipworth has taken Kearns' spot on the roster.

3
Matt Diaz
D.L.
Marlins placed OF Matt Diaz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 19, with a left knee contusion.
Diaz should be ready to return to the active roster as soon as he's eligible. The 35-year-old is batting just .167/.211/.222 in 10 games this season with the Marlins.

Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) could begin jogging sometime next week.
That's what Marlins skipper Mike Redmond told reporters on Saturday afternoon. Stanton has been on the disabled list since April 30 with a severe right hamstring strain and is being limited currently to pool workouts. There is no timetable for his return to Miami.

Alfredo Silverio

Marlins placed OF Alfredo Silverio on the 60-day disabled list with a sprained right elbow.
It's not clear how long the Rule 5 pick will be out. Silverio missed the entire 2012 season after injuring his neck and back in an auto accident.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Thursday that Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) has been progressing with his long-toss program.
It's not clear when Eovaldi will be ready to throw from a mound, but he's moving in the right direction. The right-hander looks to be a little behind Henderson Alvarez, who should be ready to rejoin the Marlins' rotation in mid-May.
