Twins signed RHP Lester Oliveros to a minor league contract.
Oliveros was non-tendered, but has since re-signed. The 24-year-old posted a 2.42 ERA while striking out over a batter per inning with the Twins' Triple-A affiliate before undergoing Tommy John surgery in late August. He'll likely be sidelined until 2014.

Oliveros had a 2.42 ERA and 51/15 K/BB ratio over 48 1/3 innings in Triple-A last season, but August Tommy John surgery will sideline him for most or all of 2013. The Twins figure to re-sign him to a minor league contract.

Twins recalled RHP Lester Oliveros from Triple-A Rochester.
Oliveros put up a 2.42 ERA while striking out over a batter per inning between Double- and Triple-A this season before undergoing Tommy John surgery in late August. He'll likely be sidelined until 2014.

Lester Oliveros underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday.
It was reported earlier this month that Oliveros needed surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow, but evidently the procedure was more complicated than that. The reliever will now be sidelined for most, if not all, of 2013.

It's not clear how long the malady might sideline the infielder. Eduardo Escobar took Florimon's spot at shortstop Thursday.

Trevor Plouffe said Wednesday that he passed his concussion test, but was placed on the 7-day disabled list because of his initial wooziness.
After what happened with Justin Morneau and Denard Span in previous seasons, the Twins didn't want to take any chances. Plouffe hopes to be back when he's first eligible next week.

The best-case scenario is that Mastroianni will resume weight-bearing activities in three weeks. However, he's expected to be sidelined until the second half of the season.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Tim Wood's right shoulder showed no signs of major structural damage.
Wood is headed to Minnesota for a second look. The 30-year-old has posted an ugly 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings this season between High-A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester. He is currently on the MLB disabled list.
