Mets sent RHP Chris Schwinden outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
The move, which happened over the weekend, clears a spot on the 40-man roster. Nothing official yet, but the Mets could use that vacant spot to call up prospect left-hander Josh Edgin to pitch out of the bullpen.

Mets claimed RHP Chris Schwinden off waivers from the Yankees.
Schwinden has now gone from the Mets to the Blue Jays to the Indians to the Yankees and back to the Mets over the last month. He'll represent rotation depth at Triple-A but is probably best suited for a long relief role over the long haul.

Yankees designated RHP Chris Schwinden for assignment.
He was cleared to make room for Darnell McDonald on the 40-man roster. Schwinden has been with four different organizations since June 1 and could be on the move again.

It's the fourth organization he's been in this month. Schwinden has been assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will represent rotation depth there.

Mets placed INF Justin Turner on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 17, with an intercostal strain.
The move clears a spot for Scott Atchison's return from the disabled list. Turner will be eligible to return in early July and has a chance to be ready by then. The 28-year-old is batting .266/.307/.330 in 94 at-bats this season.

Tejada resumed running earlier this week and is slowly ramping up other baseball activities. It's not clear when he'll begin a rehab assignment, but considering how poorly he was playing prior to the injury, he shouldn't be assured a spot on the major league roster once he's back to full health.

Jon Niese yielded two runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday.
He struck out five. Niese allowed six hits and four walks, so it wasn't pretty, but he kept his team in the ballgame. However, a two-run single by opposing pitcher Scott Feldman in the fourth inning was enough to put him on the losing side. The southpaw has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last five starts and now owns a 4.15 ERA on the year. He'll face the Braves next week in Atlanta.

Jenrry Mejia (elbow) racked up six strikeouts over three innings during his first minor league rehab start with High-A St. Lucie on Friday.
Mejia has been on the disabled list for the entire season with inflammation in his pitching elbow. He's likely to require a relatively lengthy rehab assignment, and shouldn't be expected to return to the Mets until early June. Should he secure a spot in the Mets rotation, he could carve out a decent amount of value in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

The move cleared a spot on the Mets' 40-man roster for Aaron Laffey. Santana (shoulder) won't pitch this season.

Atchison suffered the injury on Tuesday while warming up before an appearance. It was his first day back from the DL for an elbow injury. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be out.

It's just a procedural move to open a spot on the 40-man roster. Familia underwent surgery Wednesday to remove bone spurs from his right elbow and likely won't factor into the Mets' bullpen again until 2014.
