Giants reassigned INF Joe Panik, RHPs Jose Valdez, Edward Concepcion, Fabio Castillo and Justin Fitzgerald, LHP Josh Osich and C Andrew Susac to minor league camp.
No surprises here. Panik is the most high profile of the cuts as a former first-round pick, but he finished last year in A-ball and is obviously a ways away from the majors.

Giants prospect infielder Joe Panik has yet to make his Cactus League debut due to right hamstring tightness.
The Giants are holding him out as a precaution, so it doesn't sound like a major concern. Panik, 22, owns a .312/.379/.424 batting line over his first two seasons in the minors and was recently ranked as the organization's No. 2 prospect by Baseball America.

Joe Panik went 2-for-3 with his first home run of the fall in the Scottsdale Scorpions' 8-4 loss to the Peoria Javelinas on Monday.
Panik, who was selected 29th overall by the Giants in June, hit .341 with six homers and 54 RBIs at Low-A Salem-Keizer this year. The Northwest League's MVP and Postseason All-Star was hitless in five of his first six games but expressed confidence that the early blip is now behind him.

The Giants have agreed to terms with their first-round pick, St. John's shortstop Joe Panik.
Panik's signability was one of the main reasons the Giants pulled the trigger on him with the 29th overall selection, so it's no surprise this got done quickly. The financial particulars aren't available at this time, but it's expected that he'll get somewhere around $1.1 million, which is MLB's slot recommendation for the 29th pick. Panik is a high-floor, low-ceiling player that should be able to move fairly quickly. He might eventually have to move to second base.

Abreu began the season on the disabled list with a strained quad. The 28-year-old could serve as a utility infielder with the big club once he's back to full health.

Giants placed RHP Ryan Vogelsong on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.
Vogelsong was hit by a pitch while swinging the bat in the fifth inning Tuesday and suffered fractures above and below the top knuckle in his pinkie. He's expected to undergo surgery Tuesday and will likely miss around six weeks. Chad Gaudin is the most likely replacement for the rotation, though the Giants could call up Michael Kickham from Triple-A.

Casilla has dealt with the cyst since last season, and a brace that he had been wearing wasn't working. He'll receive another opinion on Wednesday to see if there's another way to combat the issue.
