Schoop went down with a stress fracture in his back in late May. He'll be sidelined until after the All-Star break.

Jonathan Schoop has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back and will need 6-8 weeks of rest.
Schoop will meet with another doctor later this week for a second opinion, but it seems doubtful that the diagnosis will change. The 21-year-old infielder was batting .268/.331/.386 with three homers and 18 RBI in 34 games at the Triple-A level. It is no longer a certainty that he will reach the major leagues this season.

Orioles prospect infielder Jonathan Schoop has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with Triple-A Norfolk due to a lower back strain.
Coming off a breakthrough performance during the World Baseball Classic, the 21-year-old Schoop is batting .268/.331/.386 with three home runs, 18 RBI and a .717 OPS through 34 games at Triple-A this year. He has played 17 games at shortstop and 17 at second base.

Orioles optioned 2B Jonathan Schoop, LHP Zach Britton, and 3B Yamaico Navarro to Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles are expected to use Schoop at shortstop this year, but his best chance at reaching the majors will be at second base if/when Brian Roberts gets injured. Britton was a candidate for the final spot in Baltimore's Opening Day rotation.

It's the first time he's been allowed to field since undergoing knee surgery. Betemit has also been able to do sprints, take batting practice and hit in the cages. He's hoping to return just after the All-Star break.

Nolan Reimold (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Bowie.
Reimold has been sidelined for just over a month due to a straight right hamstring, but he's finally ready to return to game action. The 29-year-old should rejoin the Orioles' lineup by the end of the month.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that Jason Hammel (illness) is unlikely to start Tuesday against the Tigers.
Hammel was scratched from his start on Monday due to a stomach virus and is still getting his strength back. While Jake Arrieta is filling in on Monday, the Orioles could call up Zach Britton to start on Tuesday. Hammel is likely to be pushed back to Friday.

Chen, out since May 27 with a right oblique strain, threw off a full mound Monday and is scheduled to pitch a simulated game Thursday. The Orioles will likely want him to make at least one rehab start before coming off the disabled list.

Johnson will need at least three weeks of recovery time. He suffered the injury Wednesday night during a relief appearance against the Astros and will leave behind an 8.49 ERA. The Orioles have recalled outfielder Xavier Avery to fill the vacant roster spot.
