Jake Diekman surrendered four runs (two earned) over two-thirds of an inning Friday against the Indians.
Diekman should have gotten out of the inning, but shortstop Michael De Leon botched a potential double-play grounder, setting the stage for a go-ahead three-run homer by Jason Kipnis. Jose Ramirez followed with a single and eventually came around to score after Diekman was removed from the game. The Rangers’ closer role is wide open this spring, with Diekman being considered along with a host of candidates. Alex Claudio saw the majority of chances down the stretch last year, but Keone Kela (who threw a scoreless inning on Friday) remains a threat and the club could reportedly give Tim Lincecum a chance once his deal becomes official.
