Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros view Evan Gattis as "more as a first baseman and designated hitter."
The natural opening for Gattis appeared to be in left field, and it's possible he'll play some there, but it doesn't look like it will be his primary position. "We don’t know what Gattis is going to look like in left field," general manager Jeff Luhnow said. "If he’s good out there or adequate, I’m sure he’ll get some at-bats out there. Is he going to be our everyday left fielder? I can’t imagine that happening with the guys that we have, but we want to have that bat in the lineup." The revelation is probably bad news for Jon Singleton, as it appears Gattis and Chris Carter will be in line for most of the at-bats between first base and DH. Carter can play some left field, but Jake Marisnick looks to be the favorite to start there. Jan 20 - 11:47 PM
