With Chris Perez unavailable, Cody Allen nailed down his first career save by striking out the only batter he faced in Sunday's win over the Tigers.
Indians manager Terry Francona decided to give Perez some rest since he threw 22 pitches the previous night. After southpaw Rich Hill retired the first two batters in the 10th, Allen came on to strike out Matt Tuiasosopo to end it. Vinnie Pestano is on the DL and Joe Smith had already pitched, so Allen is still probably, at best, fourth in line for saves in Cleveland.

Cody Allen has been told by Indians manager Terry Francona that he has secured a spot in the team's Opening Day bullpen.
The 24-year-old appeared in 27 games with the Indians in 2012, posting a 3.72 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 27/15 K/BB ratio over 29 innings. Despite his struggles this spring, Francona assured him last week that he had the spot locked up. He's unlikely to pitch in many high-leverage situations however, making him worthless in most fantasy formats.

Indians purchased the contract of RHP Cody Allen from Triple-A Columbus.
The 23-year-old has struck out 53 while walking only nine over 43 1/3 innings this season in the minors. He should work the middle innings initially.

MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports that the Indians are expected to purchase the contract of right-hander Cody Allen from Triple-A Columbus.
The Indians have yet to make an official announcement. Allen, 23, has a dominant 53/9 K/BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings this season between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. He'll likely pitch in middle relief, but could work his way into a late-inning role down the line.

Brett Myers (elbow) fared well in his first minor league rehab start with Double-A Akron on Friday, allowing just one hit and a walk over three scoreless innings of work.
Myers threw 33 pitches in the game, 18 for strikes. He's dealing with a mild UCL tear in his elbow, but has chosen to try to pitch through the injury rather than undergoing surgery. It's a good first step, but he'll need several rehab outings before rejoining the Indians' rotation.

Indians placed RHP Josh Tomlin on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the arrival of Michael Bourn. Tomlin is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2013 campaign.

Blake Wood (elbow) will continue his minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with Class A Lake County.
Wood felt some soreness in his surgically-repaired elbow during his first appearance on Saturday, but it was only a minor scare. The 27-year-old right-hander is currently in recovery mode from Tommy John surgery and will likely need a handful of appearances before he's a legitimate consideration for the major league roster.

The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Robert Whitenack on the 40-man roster. Herrmann had Tommy John surgery in March and will miss the entire 2013 season.
