Jonathan Broxton blew his second save of the season in Wednesday's 15-inning loss to the Orioles, allowing two runs on four hits in the ninth inning.
Tasked with protecting a 3-1 lead, Broxton allowed a one-out solo shot to Wilson Betemit before serving up three singles (one of which plated the tying run) in between recording the final two outs. An ugly outing, but Broxton had converted seven straight save opportunities with relatively little fuss coming into this evening. His job isn't in danger.

Jonathan Broxton converted his seventh straight save chance Monday, giving up a hit but striking out two in a win over the Rangers.
Broxton has made a stunning turnaround after he blew up in a blown save back on April 11 when he looked like he wouldn't be long for the job. Since then, he's allowed just one run over 11 appearances while nailing down all of his save chances. His job is very secure right now.

Jonathan Broxton allowed the first two Yankees to reach in the ninth inning on Thursday, but battled back to slam the door and pick up his fifth save of the season.
After Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson reached to start the night, Broxton was able to induce Mark Teixeira to ground into a double play and then retire Alex Rodriguez on a groundout to third after a lengthy at-bat. While he's not the same intimidating and dominating force that he was as a Dodger, Broxton appears to be settling into his role as the closer in Kansas City, and his job security is on the rise.

Jonathan Broxton turned in a scoreless bottom of the ninth against the Tigers for his fourth save Wednesday.
Broxton had the one meltdown last month against the A's, but he hasn't allowed a run in his other four save chances this season. Apart from the one aforementioned outing, he's walked just one batter in eight innings.

Updating a previous item, Salvador Perez (knee) went 4-for-4 with a home run and caught three innings in an extended spring training game Friday.
Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star originally reported that Perez was expected to catch Saturday for the first time since knee surgery, but it actually happened on Friday. He's slated to DH on Saturday. The early word is that the 22-year-old backstop is ahead of schedule, so there's a chance we'll see him back with the Royals by the end of June.

Manny Pina (knee) said he's running at about 60 percent and will likely catch his first bullpen in 15 days.
"I think (I’ll) be ready to play like June, early June," Piña said. The 24-year-old could be optioned to Triple-A when he's healthy.

Royals placed INF Chris Getz on the 15-day disabled list with a left ribcage contusion.
Getz originally suffered the injury last week, but he aggravated it during Tuesday's game. Johnny Giovotella and Irving Falu will share second base duties during his absence.

Yuniesky Betancourt (ankle) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday at the Double-A level.
Betancourt has been out of commission since May 2 with an ankle sprain. It is fully healed by now and he should be ready to return to the bigs by the end of May.

Lorenzo Cain (groin) is expected to miss another 4-8 weeks.
Cain originally just had a left groin strain, but that has turned into a torn hip flexor. It's a really bad injury for a base stealer and he won't even start rehab work until next week. Speedster Jarrod Dyson projects to get most of the starts in center going forward. He's hitting .321 with two swipes in his first seven appearances of the season.

Jonathan Sanchez (biceps tendinitis) is expected to make his first minor league rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Omaha.
Sanchez landed on the disabled list earlier this month with left biceps tendinitis. It's not clear how many rehab starts he'll need. The 29-year-old left-hander had a miserable 6.75 ERA and 18/22 K/BB in 25 1/3 innings prior to the injury.

Danny Duffy is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday.
Dr. Lewis Yocum recently confirmed the Royals' diagnosis of a torn ulnar collateral ligament in Duffy's left elbow. The promising 23-year-old will be sidelined for the rest of the season and the early part of 2013.

Blake Wood underwent successful Tommy John surgery Friday.
Wood will miss the rest of the season and figures to be a little behind at the start of the 2013 campaign. The 26-year-old right-hander had a 3.75 ERA and 62/32 K/BB ratio over 69 2/3 innings out of the Royals' bullpen last year.

Royals placed LHP Everett Teaford on the 15-day disabled list with a lower abdominal strain.
Teaford was expected to start Sunday against the Diamondbacks, but is apparently dealing with a previously undisclosed injury. The Royals have recalled Nate Adcock in a corresponding move.

Soria is out for the season following Tommy John surgery. This move clears a spot on the 40-man roster.
