Jacob deGrom was undone by a four-run fifth inning in Wednesday's 7-1 Game 2 World Series loss.
Game 2 began well enough for deGrom, as he didn't allow a hit the first time through the order. Entering the bottom of the fifth inning, he held a 1-0 lead. The Royals would chip away in typically Royal fashion. DeGrom opened the frame by walking Alex Gordon, then surrendered singles to Alex Rios and Alcides Escobar. Escobar's hit tied the contest at 1-1. DeGrom would retire two batters before allowing singles to Eric Hosmer, Kendrys Morales and Mike Moustakas. When the inning finally ended, deGrom had thrown 35 pitches in the frame and surrendered four runs. He ultimately struck out two and walked three over his five innings of work. The 27-year-old right-hander should see another start in the World Series unless the Royals sweep the Mets. Noah Syndergaard will take the ball in Game 3 as the boys from New York try to avoid an 0-3 hole. Oct 28 - 11:06 PM
