Making his second start in the majors, Aaron Nola pitched well in a win over the Cubs on Sunday, yielding four runs on five hits over 7 2/3 innings.
The No. 7 pick in the amateur draft last season, Nola's skyrocketed to the big leagues. Both of his starts have been impressive thus far. Against the Cubs on Sunday, he struck out six and walked two. Kris Bryant managed a sacrifice fly in the first inning and Dexter Fowler burned him for a solo homer in the third, but otherwise, the 22-year-old kept things under control until the Cubs reached him for an additional two runs in the eighth. The game was already well in hand by that point. Overall, Nola's allowed five runs in 13 2/3 innings and holds a 12/3 K/BB ratio over that span. Those in deeper mixed leagues would be advised to strongly consider him until he shows signs that major league hitters are catching on to his act. A home start against the rival Braves will close out July for the youngster. Jul 26 - 5:32 PM
