Athletics and RHP Pat Neshek avoided arbitration Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year, $975,000 contract.
He could earn an additional $75,000 in incentives. Neshek, 32, registered a promising 1.37 ERA and 16/6 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings this past season for the A's. He will serve as a middle reliever for the club in 2013.

Pat Neshek will be on the Athletics' roster for the ALDS against the Tigers.
Neshek will be pitching with a very heavy heart, as his son died less than 24 hours after being born this week. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a 1.37 ERA and 16/6 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings over 24 relief appearances this season with the A's.

Pat Neshek will be unavailable for the final two games in order to be with his wife as she gives birth to their first child.
He'll be available for the postseason, though it's not a given that the A's would put him on the roster. Neshek holds a 1.37 ERA and 0.81 WHIP over 24 games with Oakland.

Athletics acquired RHP Pat Neshek from the Orioles for cash considerations.
Neshek, 31, had a 2.66 ERA and 49/7 K/BB ratio over 44 innings this season with the O's Triple-A affiliate. He has been added to the active roster and will pitch in middle relief.

It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) received a day off from his rehab assignment on Saturday but will play in each of the next three games with Triple-A Sacramento.
Nakajima has appeared in four games thus far with Sacramento, going 3-for-15 (.200) with a double and a pair of RBI. He's expected to need a lengthy rehab assignment before joining the Athletics, and isn't a lock to receive significant playing time once he is activated.

Josh Reddick admitted Monday that it's possible he'll need surgery on his ailing right wrist.
The good news is that Reddick has no structural damage, and he's already feeling better since being shut down over the last week. However, he'll wait another week before trying to swing a bat, and if he's not able to at that time, surgery might be required. Reddick had an operation on his left wrist after the 2011 season and need two months of recovery time, so if he does get cut open he's likely to be out past the All-Star break.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.

Rodriguez will miss the entire 2013 season. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February's Jed Lowrie deal.
